Kinja'd!!!

I need to find a Dayton OH area-shop to look at the Matrix to take a look at the flywheel and see what’s wrong and what needs to be fixed...and how does a flywheel replacement for a FWD vehicle usually cost? Ute bait for your time.

If your flywheel is gone and needs to be replaced/resurfaced, you may as well do the clutch and related bits at the same time (unless they’re relatively new, in which case I’d suspect a bad replacement job led to your current issue). 90% of the costs is going to be the labor involved with separating the engine and trans, which is the same thing you do to replace a clutch.

I don’t know any shops here in Dayton, sadly. I’ve been here 3 years, but I usually do all that stuff myself. I can ask around at work, though.

C’s Autohaus on Thomas Paine in Centerville.

I have had them work on my SVT Focus and my GTI. They do good work and I find their prices fair.

I’m also probably going to do the clutch as well, because it’s really going to make a difference in drivability.

I’ll contact them on Monday.

My mom is still in the area and uses Specialty Motorwerkes for all of her vehicles. They frequently have Bentleys, Ferraris, air-cooled Porsches, Audis, Range Rovers, and BMWs, and many other vehicles that are more difficult to maintain. Their labor rates are very reasonable. They can get parts very quickly and have treated my family very well for many years. They have stayed late on a Friday to fix a last minute issue and still keep me on track for leaving early the next morning to get home more than once. If you call make sure to ask for Elizabeth, the owner’s daughter, if she doesn’t answer. She is incredibly nice and very knowledgeable.

I don’t want to bad-mouth any shop but the shop that was recommended in Centerville curbed one of my mom’s wheels and wouldn’t accept responsibility, even though the wheels were brand new and the shop put the tires on them and put them on the car. The pictures they showed from unpacking the wheels showed perfect wheels; the wheels were not perfect when the car was picked up. :(

Don’t know but you should look at possibly replacing your clutch while you are in there if you have one. The expensive part of these kinds of jobs is getting in.

I’m going to do that.

I really just need a shop that I can get a quote from without towing the car to the shop like Brownie’s.
