As a fellow Plaid enthusiast, I approve of this decision.

I test drove a base golf the other day and couldn’t believe they still only have a 5 speed.

Nice! Seems like oppo had a successful week car shopping. I almost bought a CVT Audi A5 because it had GTI style plaid seats. They are hard to resist.

Congrats! One of the many selling points when I bought my MK7 GTI was the Tartan seats. Welcome to the team. It’s a great platform

Was thinking the same. March Madness it appears to be. Oppo is putting in work.

Yep. If it’s the 2.5 it does have character. Had a 2.5 Jetta last year.

This one had the 1.8T, and looking on VW’s website, and the base motor is the 1.8T

Drove pretty nice, I can see why people buy them. I drove there in my M3 and I will say it felt a little underpowered, I guess with the M3 I’m used to being able to put it in 6th at 35, top gear in this at 35 did nothing.

2.5 L(?)-5 is a good motor. But the golf has a 4-banger right?

Welcome, fellow VW owner. I just picked up a 2011 Tiguan myself.
Congrats on your GTI! Always had a thing for the plaid.

Technically it’s called Clark plaid.
Regardless, they are awesome seats.

While a six speed would’ve been more fun, that car never really needed an extra ratio. It’ll turn 1800rpm at 60mph in 5th and I easily got 35-40mpg out of mine as a result. The torque from the turbo will happily pull you along at any revs over 1600rpm. Getting up to speed was never an issue either; VW underrated that motor on the spec sheet, it’ll do 60mph in 7 seconds, which, while not M3 fast, is far from slow. I usually revved out second and part of third getting up to speed and would already be exceeding the limit. It surprised people in autocross as well, I will forever remain curious just how competitive the car would have been had I put suitable tires on it.
