Kinja'd!!!

First, I heard your exhaust. I was confused because I didn’t see a sports car anywhere. But then, you kicked it down two gears and RIPPED IT through a yellow light at a ludicrous speed. The wild acceleration/soot at full throttle made me assume that you’re rocking some kind of crazy tune. MARRY ME!?

Yeah right. I’m a chump. But it does beg the question: If you were foolish enough to go looking for the elusive car girl... where would you start? I think it’s a total lost cause unless you get lucky. Talking to women at car shows is just as uncool as hitting on them at the gym IMO. Also, as we all know, most women at car meets are (unfortunately) there with a sig other and not actually into cars anyway. At this point, I’ve set my sights on a more realistic goal: find someone who has an all-consuming passion of their own, so she gets it. I REFUSE to be one of those sad middle aged men on car forums who has to “ask the wife” for permission to enjoy my hobby.

Going for it! My dream is to run an automotive business’ social media. I’m currently a social media analyst at a big name tech company, so that’s my lucky first step. To the business guys that’s a “digital marketing campaign manager” but what it really means is “Noah gets paid to post about cars...”

I don’t know, but the last car girl I tried to talk to told me that Mercedes-Benzes were what old men bought for their wives after an affair, the V12 was a wasteful gimmick for companies that couldn’t build a proper V8, and that her Dodge Dart factory 440 was better in every way and that I, as a luxury car owner, probably couldn’t handle it.

You’re doing it backwards. You need to find a partner that wants to share your passions and vice versa. Doesn’t matter if she’s into cars going in or if the only thing she knows is their color. Bond while teaching her to drive stick, teach her to change oil, etc etc and at some point you’ll realize she’s calling cars by their chassis codes and bemoaning the slow death of the standard transmission. At the same time you’ll have learned to identify song birds by call and you’ll be excited to get up at 6am on a Sunday to do a wildlife survey at a local stream.

At least that’s how it worked for me.

Ugh. I always assume its a sign of insecurity and/or immaturity when a car enthusiast has to put down other people’s interests like that in order to tell you why their car is cooler than yours. Yikes...

Where I live, a huge majority of WRXs are with female drivers. There is one that I see a lot, and we wave to each other. I think she is a nanny for a GULF exec, and he has a E63 wagon and 993 Turbo

I had a friend in the car one time and while she wasn’t a massive car person like I am, she was somewhat into cars. We were driving around Corpus Christi in the M3 and she goes “I will buy S5, it has 333 hp” I say “Oh, yeah” drop it back into third and floor it. Then say “I’ve got 414.” I don’t think she was impressed.

Guy here that got lucky with a car girl wife. The downside is the car budget gets cut in half. Granted its alot easier to bring up but it quickly grows to “well you got wheels why can’t I get that 6 piston brembo kit?”.

Still I know I got it good.

Good luck!

Being honest, I think trying to find a girl that has to likes cars is an unbelievably bad decision. You will try and find this person who has this rare like that (lets be honest) mostly men enjoy. After finding her, this person should also kind of match what you are looking for in a girl and be attractive to you. Is there someone out there that fits the bill? I guess, but being with someone who you truly feel happy spending time with is MUCH better than trying to find someone to have car debates with.

I personally really like that the girl I go out with doesn’t know much about cars, or isn’t really that intrigued by them. When a conversation arises and she is genuinely interested its a real joy to show her my very specific knowledge. Getting a smile out of her face when doing pulls, nailing a rev-matched downshift never gets old. Also teaching her to drive stick for example. Its introducing someone into my hobby and my passion, and its one of the things I enjoy the most of being a car enthusiast.

I had a tiny little thing pull past me on a superbike to the line at a red light. Her black tights revealed a hint of lace. When the light turned green I beat her off the line as she sure wasn’t expecting a lunatic in an M5 to punch it and smoke her to the next red light. We then raced one stop light to the next four or five times.

All of this was in a 35 mph zone. We’d have gone to jail for sure.

No idea who she is/was or her name or what she looks like inside of that helmet. Don’t know; don’t care. Best random encounter ever.

There was never a factory Dart with a 440. There was a dealership that converted something like 650 ‘68 and ‘69 GTSs to 440s, but those are incredibly rare.

I understand why you reacted that way, I’m also a gamer so I’m well versed in how horrible young men are to women who participate in male dominated hobbies. It really sucks :( I was just trying to express a common sentiment around here: it’s always cool to see women enjoying cars too. I think oppo is really good about this most of the time and didn’t mean to give off that vibe. TBH I’m a lonely person and that’s where the whole marry me thing came from, more than anything else...

Yep you’re 100% right there, dating is a total numbers game and searching for that just makes your pool of options comically small. I’m glad she likes your car nut habits! That is always a plus. A very long time ago, I dated someone who would give me the same exact smile. Finding someone who thinks this craziness is cute = the most we can reasonably hope for I think

hahaha that’s awesome, superbikes horrify me so I have instant respect for anyone who can handle that. A few months ago, I heard the strangest noise approaching me from behind on the highway. I was in the middle lane, and the noise turned out to be an RS5 and a superbike with a gnarly exhaust racing at 120+ (I was doing 70 and got passed like I was standing still). Their engines were synced up revving through a high gear when they blew by me on either side and it was one of the best noises I’ve ever heard.

I don’t know. She said it was a numbers matching 440 Dart but I’m not a muscle car expert, so it could be a “real” one or somebody else did an engine swap. All I know is she was very unpleasant to talk to.

When you’re chatting with someone interesting at a race talk about birding; if they ask decent questions and don’t glaze over/deflect: stage 1 complete. Same with discussing the 25 year import ban at a group nature walk.

Return the favor if they’re interesting and bring up something you’re ignorant on.

Dun know if it works nowadays, but that was kind of my strategy back in the day.

She is Turkish and only here on a 5 year work visa, so I think that went into her thoughts. I don’t know how old you are, but if you’re still in high school or college, have you thought about joining some sort of community service organization? They’re usually pretty laid back and welcoming. I was part of a co-ed service fraternity in college and I’m still friends with a lot of those people to this day. They were a diverse group of people with varied interests, so it was an easy way to meet people who didn’t share the same interests I did (other than the desire to help people, that is).

If you’re already out of college, there are still lots of volunteering opportunities out there. The United Way is a good one. Or volunteering for your local Boys & Girls Club or YMCA. We have Boys & Girls Clubs here, and one of the local clubs even had a dedicated video game room for the older kids (middle school and high school). Since you’re a gamer, I bet you’d fit right in as a mentor with something like that.

Google your town or state and “volunteer” and see what pops up. Not only does volunteering get you out of the house and meeting new people, but it makes you feel good, too.
