Kinja'd!!!

The Pixel XL’s low light performance is very good for a potato.

I might go as far as saying that it’s not a potato actually.

A carrot maybe, but definitely not a potato

That’s not bad at all. Does it let you take pictures in a format other than JPG? Just curious.

It’s a sweet potato.

I think technically yes, as it has a psuedo HDR mode it must shoot in some sort of proprietary RAW format, but the editing can only be done on the phone AFAIK and it then saves itself as a JPG.

Going from a tuba to a root is quite the upgrade. Are you sure you know your veg?

I haven’t found any real disadvantage with it during day to day photography, apart from the fact it really doesn’t handle backlit subjects as I’d want it to. Even then, it’s no worse than any other phone.

With third-party apps, I believe you can do raw.

It is a Sony sensor, after all. The IMX sensors after the Z2 release have been well regarded for their low-light performance.

It’s totally worth finding a third party camera app that will shoot in a RAW format, and then getting mobile Lightroom for editing.
