As an example, the US forced Americans to repatriate to Mexico during the Great Depression. Not immigrants, but citizens. Trump is nothing new.

It continued for just as long under FDR as it did Hoover, and It’s not like FDR repatriated anyone after he ended it. The Democrats have been no friends of immigrants over the years. Just ask all the people deported during the Obama administration. I know people personally who were deported for BS reasons under Obama. That whole deferred action program was just a scheme to locate more immigrants so they could eventually be deported. Look at all the migrants that were killed out in the AZ and TX deserts by BP under Obama if you think Democrats have been any more accepting of immigrants than Republicans.

Friday morning there was an interesting segment from a comm enter who was who was asked “when/what would cause rural poor to get pissed off on the lack of health care?” the paraphrased response, was that they were pissed at having t pay for a specialist that is 3 hours away, which might as well not exist. he went on, they assume they’ll be screwed, they just want to be screwed the least.

There have been numerous pieces in the decidedly left-leaning WaPo and NYT about rural folks who stand to lose big with Trump’s proposed budget. Many seem to be resigned to their fate while still supporting the president. There is a large disconnect between people who vote conservative yet enjoy the benefits of a more liberal government. They may finally realize that they can’t have their cake and eat it too, even though Ryan and Trump are both basically saying, “Let them eat cake.” The midterm elections are going to be very interesting.

I think you make an interesting point here. You also make a good point about the false dichotomy of left versus right in the US. What you highlight in your “It continued...” comment is the fundamentally disingenuous nature of the liberal plank of American politics, disingenuous and arrogant. This attitude and nature led to the trotting out of HRC as a candidate and thus brought us Donald Trump. At least that is where I assign the responsibility for the ascendance of the man who is now POTUS.
