Any other sufferers here? Not talking about “Oh, I have OCD with my car because if it gets a door ding, I am pissed.” This is deeper. More serious. Real.

There are several types of OCD, but mine deals with intrusive thoughts.

https://www.intrusivethoughts.org/

I’m not going to do anything bad. And on the one hand, I know that. But my OCD won’t let me take very occasional at most weird thoughts (that everyone has) at face value and not worry about them. It causes me to obsess over the fact that I had the thoughts (not really what the thoughts are about).

Just looking to see if there are any other sufferers here. This shit blows. My heart rate stays in the low 100s a good portion of the day because of my racing, anxious mind. And no, I don’t have a heart problem. That’s been checked. I’ve for sure been diagnosed with GAD (generalized anxiety disorder) and OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder).

I’ve been to my doctor. He has me on 20 MG of Lexapro and recently, 2 MG of Abilify. Please save the medicine lectures. They do help me. I just have bad times.

I go through phases where it’s fine and phases where it’s not. Right now, unfortunately, it’s not.

This is my heart rate right now sitting on the couch on break at work.

I’ve dealt with anxiety and panic attacks since I was 20 or so (13ish years). Struggled with it quite a bit in the first few years because I didn’t know what was happening and thought I was in serious danger every time.

Thankfully I was able to overcome that somewhat so now I can usually deal with a panic attack when it comes on, even if it takes me a while.

I feel like my anxiety is pretty slight compared to many sufferers, but I know how horribly it can intrude on everyday life and derail even the simplest of situations.

Good luck to you.

Fellow sufferer here! You can read about how I freaked out on the return trip from my honeymoon here . I’ve gone the prescription route (celexa/adderall), which was terrible. To be honest some days I just let it take over my life.

I have noticed a direct association with physical activity however. More activity = less anxiety. Yoga is a huge help, and I self medicate when necessary with you know what.

Dealing with this as well, hang on.

Might be starting Lexapro, we’ll see how things go.

Not really an option for me as even the smell of that gives me an awful headache.

I had several panic attacks in 2012, it was an eye opener and I never thought it would happen to me. I’m much better now, I medicate through exercise, relaxation techniques and talking it out. Amazing but it works. My mom is a licensed councilor and has told me that that the drugs are not a good way to go if you can avoid it.

Yeah definitely not for everyone. His reason was he wouldn’t eat for almost 2 days while on lexapro because he’d feel too nauseous.

You tried CBT? Kind of a sledgehammer but the shit works if you commit to it. Good counselor who won’t allow you to slack and a regular group who hold everyone else accountable really help...shop around.

No OCD here, but was briefly on Lexapro for anxiety/depression. Can’t say it helped a great deal (interestingly Celexa seemed to help much more, despite being extremely similar in composition). Have been on SNRIs since taking an expensive genetic test that showed poor metabolism of SSRIs though.

Yes. It absolutely sucks and I’m sorry you’re going through this.

The plural of anecdote is never data, but I will say that I had a friend trade the scripts for greener pastures a number of years ago. He couldn’t be happier, and edibles dealt with the smell.

One of the reasons I bought my fat bike was this. I need to thoroughly kick my own ass two or three days a week to stay sane.

I have OCD and a very high level of anxiety. I take medication as well. My first recommendation is to TAKE OFF THAT WATCH. It will not help you to worry about your heart rate. That can be a cause of anxiety in and of itself.

You should ask your Dr about propranolol. It’s primary usage is a blood pressure med, but it can also help your body not get excited (cuts adrenal response) and can sometimes help with anxiety issues. It would be used in conjunction with the Lexapro you’re already taking. My wife uses it for her anxiety and it helps her quite a bit when the anxiety specific med isn’t up to task. Good luck with the situation man, just remember that sometimes you just need to prioritize yourself and take some breaths.
