But before everyone gets excited...

I’d like to remind you all of this.

Just because it exists, doesn’t mean it will happen. Especially with Opel no longer being GM, I wouldn’t be surprised if this doesn’t make it to production.

Opel will be building them regardless and GM can, if they want to, offer them in the US. No idea if there’s a business case to be made for one in the US where people prefer to spend more on an otherwise similar crossover, but that’s besides the point.

Replace tricycle with wagon.

Oddly enough, if it gets reasonably good highway fuel economy I will put my TDI money where my mouth is and buy one. This hits the mark for what I need right now.

I bet you won’t be getting them with one of the diesel engines they’ll offer them with here.

That’s a guarantee, but my body is ready for a new Buick wagon. Even if it has to sport a small lift and black plastic cladding to make it sell here.

Diesel wagon?

Where do I sign? I’ll even bring my own pen.

Well, welcome to Europe. There are far more wagons on our roads than sedans. At least in my part of Europe there are. If you don’t offer a compact and a midsize wagon here you’re doing it wrong. All with multiple diesel options obviously. Opel (still GM...) has 2, Ford has 2, FCA has 1, Audi 2, BMW 2, Citroën 1, Dacia 1, Hyundai 2. Kia 2, Mazda 1 (the absence of a Mazda 3 wagon has cost them dearly), Mercedes 4! (C, CLA, CLS, E), Mini 1, Peugeot 2, Renault 3, Seat 2, Skoda 3, Subaru 1, Toyota 2, VW 2, Volvo 2. That’s 38 different wagons, and I’m ignoring the taller plastic clad crossovery versions as different models here. The US gets maybe 5 of those. Other than the Subaru Levorg they’re all available with diesel engines.

My edit time was up, so a new reply. I forgot to cross off the plastic Mercedes E, with that one gone it’s 38.

Well they did bother to get the wagon CARB certified, so I would not be surprised if they brought it over.

Well they could still put it back as an Opel and offer it with their ridesharing service.

While it’s true that the previous generation of Insignia wagon was considered for the US, GM was in a much different place financially than they are now. They were also in the midst of adding that vehicle to their program, rather than it being integrated into the program from the beginning.

The original Regal was supposed to be the Gen 2 Saturn Aura.

The TourX’s rumors have been much more consistent and above board. Since the TourX is supposed to be an Outback competitor - something the Insignia program didn’t offer until the Country Tourer 2-3 years ago - and the Outback is successful, I find the TourX a much greater possibility than the 2012 version was.
