What's your Dream Bike?

I was thinking the other day about what my “dream bike” would be... And I was kind of shocked that, in actuality, I’ve already got my dream bike in the garage.. It really does check every box for me, from being a hustler on dirt or pavement to it’s racing heritage, and it even has a nice dose of it being a very rare bike too....

But if I had to choose a different “dream bike” I think I’d have to go with BMW’s 2007 version of my airhead, the R1200S.... fast, sleek, and German to the core....

Kinja'd!!!

What’s your dream bike?

Either a S1000RR or an Aprilia RSV4

High horse, high lean, high performance. the bleeding edge of tech, yet still usable day to day.

Yeah... I’d rock the F outta either of those....

I remember when bwm first came out with the s1000rr and all the moto journalists were like, “Why is bmw trying to compete in the crowded sport bike field??? They can’t possibly match what Japan has been perfecting for decades now???”

Right now I’d say the new Supersport S, white, with the red frame and wheels.

and you know what the funniest part is?

I got the chance to ride a S1000RR, a ZX-10R, and a ducati 1198 all within 3 weeks of each other.

The duc was impossible to ride at anything below 7/10ths. that engine did NOT like to be in the lower 1/3rd of the RPM range. 65 in 6th? not happening, you need to be at LEAST over 75.

the ZX-nasty seating position, way to forward (even among that company) and rabid.

BOTH of those bike made it perfectly clear that they wanted nothing else on this earth otherr then to kill you.

the BMW? it was as docile and user friendly as our F800R, or my SV. I could NOT believe i was on top of 190 crank HP.

then I got on a private road and ran it wide open from the bottom of third. went something like this:

okay, here we go, now we are-holy-shit-thisthinISSAAARRGGGGGGGAAAAAAAHHHHHHH-bangshift-AAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH-bangshift-AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH-bangshift-AHHHHHHHH

I saw the wrong side of 165mph on that bike in a disconcertingly short distance. but so docile otherwise.

Being tall sucks for most sport bikes, and I wouldn’t get 2/10ths out of one anyway (anymore at least). I liked my CBRs (I had a 93 900RR that I bought new, and a couple of 600s later on).

I’d say now, it’d be some sort of dual sport. XR650L. although I like the looks of the CRF250 Rally. The Africa Twin may be a bit much for me to get back into bikes after being off them for 17 years.

I’ve ridden both, both are perfect machines in their own right. But the 701 does not make sense from a cost perspective ($12,000 dirtbike !?!?) and the Tuono scares the shit out of me from a maintenance perspective (the valve shim procedure is 60 pages long and makes multiple references to things called “impossible clips”, I also have a mental block about letting g someone else work on my motorcycles)

My tastes vary too much to have any one particular dream bike. Currently, I’m lusting over a Street Bob, but there’s plenty of other bikes I’d love to have, Buell XB12S, Honda Z50, YSR50, V-Max ,a Shovelhead bobber/chopper, Victory Crossroads... the list goes on, it’s long, and varies wildly. There’s one bike though that just, does it for me, the Honda VF750F interceptor. I don’t know what it is, but there’s something about them that makes me want one.

I’ve never heard that about aprilias... but (semi)exotic Italian bikes can be a handful... Although, I’ve hear SO many horror stories about ducati valves, and honestly, they’re pretty damn easy... So maybe the aprilia maintenance have been hyped too... Go get one and let us know!!!!!

Sounds like a solid plan. I have noticed they depreciate to under half MSRP at 12k miles (the point of the first valve interval) maybe I’ll pick one up. What better way to get to know a new machine than leaving some blood smeared in the casing?

There’s nothing else like it, sparks carbon slip on without cats. The first trip I ever took with it was up the beartooth pass in wyoming with my dad on his k1200 gt. Even behind him, he kept saying 1. how he could still very easily hear it, and 2. how amazing it sounded. The best part is starting it up next to a group of hogs, they’ve got no idea was that ‘little’ things got!

My uncles multi with the full termignoni sounds rediculous as well. I’ve been meaning to record the sounds of both. Need to find some decent sounds recording gear first

I had a Honda FB6 in the Victory’s slot as I was writing this, but then swapped the Victory in for it. All three bikes are negotiable, but I want the mix of:

Touring Bike

Sport Touring Bike (heavy on the sport)

Dual Sport (preferably an XR or DR 650)

I’ve been wanting to upgrade from my Sportster lately, and have been eyeing the Cross Country heavily. I’m torn between that and a Street Bob, two very different bikes.

I’m still working on pulling my dreams a little closer to reality, but my ideal bike garage would be:

Touring (good for me and the wife)

Cruiser (basic and stripped down, the bike I would spend the most time on)

Sport

Vintage

Dual Sport, but very heavily focused on dirt, basically a dirt bike that can be licensed.
