It originally had a 352 2 barrel, if that’s what you’re getting at. I don’t think you can get history for any pre-’81 VINs.

Eenteresting. Two-door fastback which is pretending to be a Fairlane Thunderbolt?

Other than “’63, made in Norfolk, hardtop fastback originally with a two-barrel 352, there’s not a whole lot to be learned from the warranty number.

Since, y’know, it’s not a VIN.

I did not know that about vins.390 4 barrel currently in it.

With a horrible thunderbolt snorkle.

220 horse 352 2bbl per the VIN, but that may be long gone by now.

If they ’ re pretending that ’ s a Thunderbolt, they ’ re doing a really lousy job. Missing the hood, and the drivetrain is neither original to the car, nor anything like a Thunderbolt drivetrain. Hell, for that matter, that ’ s not even the right *CAR* to be a Thunderbolt.

As mentioned elsewhere, Carfax really is kind of useless pre 81. What I can tell you though is that it isn’t stolen and was never totaled.

In the future if you need to check on something, use this:

https://www.nicb.org/theft_and_fraud_awareness/vincheck

It was posted on Oppo a while back. And while not as good as Carfax, it’s free, and tells you most of what you might need to know.

Very helpful thanks— it’s the only thing I’m aware of that allows you to search pre 81 cars.

If anyone knows of anything else, I’d love to hear about it.

I did not know that rear bumper dagmar overriders were a thing available for a Galaxie. How weird. At any rate, that’s not the original mill, since the original mill was the 352 - which was the #2 of the five V8 options. 260/289, Thunderbird 352, Thunderbird 390, and two versions of 406 (excluding the limited production 427).

You’d be able to tell what trans was original (probably swapped from an FX to an MX or C4 at this point), what rear axle was original (probably still there), and what other options, if any, if you had the data plate. But, you don’t.

At any rate, this guy is on crack, because his asking price is for a mid-grade to good factory 390 car, not a monkeyed-with 352 with wear and tear and an (undocumented?) swap.

It’s pretty much worth $5k or more just being a pretty straight fastback and having a 390. I think. It’s just not worth as much as a factory 390 or 406 4V car that’s intact and un-babooned, nor as much as as a 500XL (it’s an ordinary 500, so no console or bucket seats).

I got my 500 with a 289 for $1500, but it does need some things and some repairs.

I know where there’s an engine-less two-door ‘63 boxtop base model that could probably be had for free, but I believe it has All The Rust. It’s in a field.

Agree 5000 was my thought too. Always wanted one of these and most of em here in Michigan are junk or overpriced.

If you’re willing to go four door and out of state, your odds will probably improve. A lot. Do shoot for a 500 if you can because fawnseh aluminum trim all over and fawnseh seats, plus higher likelihood of factory V8.

Flip artist - picked up what would be a bargain, is trying to wring every cent out of it. That sounds right. Also, a couple of issues from the (more honest) original seller - trunk repair needed, floor repair needed, and some paint/moisture infiltration issues.

Um, pretty sure it’s going for a ‘63 Galaxie drag car look. They existed too. Ford built the Thunderbolt because the Galaxies were just too damn heavy to be competitive. https://www.hemmings.com/blog/2015/05/19/two-owner-1963-ford-galaxie-500-lightweight-sells-for-220000-in-indianapolis/
