My insurance. I like keeping my finances close, & secret. This is too exciting to not share.

When I first started started driving I drove like jackass, & I pay for it. As $836/month for car insurance. I had go with the one insurance provider in Ontario that will insure ultra high risk drivers. How did I derserve to pay that much?

- Roll a truck on a sideroad in a rain storm. Stunt driving & failure to stay in lane.

- 1 month later rear end a car at a red light. Failure to change lanes (I argued there where cars in the other lane & I was unable to change lanes.) & I forget the ticket. These 1st two ones are major driving offenses.

- 1 later I got a pink ticket for 130kph in a 100kph zone. I was up to 8 demerit points, @ 9 you have high chance of losing your license. That’s after the court battles.

This April it will be 3 years since the court date for the 1st 2 major tickets, so they come off my record. The charges will be on my record for 4 more years. I called my insurance broker for new rates. I was quoted with who I’m with currently for $458/month, but got an e-mail today my old provider can take me back & wants $288/month. From $836/month - $288/month that frees up $548/month. I can finally afford to fix the clutch issue & suspension. Maybe some mods too. Next year the speeding ticket comes off & it will be even lower.

I was too exciting to no share this. Insurance in Ontario is stupid expensive, don’t move here if you own a sports car.

Hopefully it works out and you free up a ton of money for more mods! I had no idea car insurance could possibly be that high.

Also... No offense, but I hope to never be in the same vicinity as you while you’re driving...

That alright. I’ve slowed down, but have also improved as a driver. I’ve been ticket free for 2 years. I also have to start paying off some debt, so I won’t go mod crazy until I have some debt paid off. Ontario has the highest insurance premiums in North America on avg. The car beside you on the hwy might not even have insurance, and be terrible.

Insurance here is insane, if you have a perfect record you’ll still pay lots. Liability starts at $1,000,000 it goes up to $2,000,000.

Damn. I had 11 demerits in Manitoba and my license was only $7xx a year. Up from the regular $55.

Doesn’t effect my insurance rate though.

Sometimes public insurance isn’t a terrible thing.

Yeah, I’m at 325ish a month for both cars in Ontario now. Dropped 500/year this month! Last time I had a ticket/hit something was in 2010, so I’m finally getting some relief.

Insurance here is dumb.

Ouch!!! I think my insurance was like $800-1000 a YEAR or something like that when I was living on my own in residence at uni. Now that I am graduated (since 2011...) and living at home until I can find a full-time job somewhere, I’m on a family plan with my brother (who is in the same boat as me) and mom and it’s down to like....$600 a year I think?

Wow, those are insane rates. Even when I was just out of college and had two or three cars, I paid something like $900 usd per YEAR. Different area, different... everything I suppose.

Insurance companies drive me crazy. I remember discussing them with a co-worker who just had his rates raised after getting yet another speeding ticket. He was complaining that they doubled his rates, yet he was still paying less than me. Key differences between us:

1) He’s about 15 years younger

2) He’s married

3) He drives a newer, faster, sportier car than my little minivan

4) He has multiple moving violations

My big problem? I admitted to the insurance companies that I did not have insurance prior to my buying my car. What they failed to take into consideration, despite my telling them this, I WAS NOT DRIVING and therefore did not need insurance. When I was unemployed I did the right thing and stopped driving since I couldn’t afford registration and insurance, and walked or took public transportation.

So, despite being older, a safer driver, not rushing into marriage (I wonder if he would have if it weren’t for that little accident...), driving a safer and more practical vehicle and having a much cleaner driving record, I get punished because I did the right thing and parked my car when I couldn’t afford to drive it responsibly. This makes absolutely zero sense to me. I try my best to lead an honest and ethical life, but I wonder if I wouldn’t have been better off financially by lying to them in the first place.

$2200 for a year for both a 328i and a Solstice. That’s not including the credit I get for putting Kristin on fire and theft only for the Winter.

15 years clean though (on the books, have one reduced to non-moving speeding ticket in NY state years ago).

I was researching minimum insurance requirements in the US, granted this varies by state, but some places such as California, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania only require $15/30/5, that’s $15k per person, $30k per accident, and $5k in property damage. Source

Basically, two sprained wrists and a bumper respray.

Bike insurance is still pricey. You have to purchase full coverage.

I knew a high risk with a crappy old base Chevrolet Cavalier. $1200/month. I’d be walking at that point. Cabs and busses would be cheaper...
