I cant make mind up on what will be the replacement for the SV

On one hand, Triumphs Street Triple R

Kinja'd!!!

765cc of sweet sweet british triple music. 118 HP, switchable ABS and TCS, brembos, TFT gauges... and 50MPG to boot

BUT its British bike, which means electronics scare me. not to mention its a 15K bike (13K list, + tax and everything)

and then THIS exists:

Kinja'd!!!

Kawasakis Z1000. Its the last year for this 4 cylinder monster, but its still as mean as ever. 1048cc, 127 WHEEL HP (~150 crank), and looks that will have megatron asking for a resume.

I test rode one of these when this generation first came out. Smooth as silk and that motor is a god dam warp-drive. Paint is pretty neat too. and i see them sitting on dealer lots for 10K out the door.

problems: not as many electronic goodies. ABS isnt switchable, and there is NO tcs or wheelie control. its got at least 50lbs on the Brit, and its a bit thirstier on gas and tires too.

Bike will be used for commuting, posing at work and by the water front, and hooligan hood-rat shit cruising with friends late at night on the highways
Cant make up mind. HELP.

Go for the Triumph.

I don’t really know anything about bikes but I prefer the look of the Triumph. It sounds like while it’s more expensive it’s a better fit for you equipment wise. It sounds like a bit of a toss up.

Kinja'd!!!

As if there is any other answer! Only one bike has that V twin, that perfectly manageable, perfect amount of power, that standard riding position, that fuel economy, and the ability to embarrass sport bikes that aren’t racing you. The 2017 SV650!

that the thing, they are so close...and frankly, I prefer the looks of the Z

Being an anglophile and slightly masochist, I’d go with the Triumph. Also, I feel like that Kawi is just slightly over-styled. But it does seem like a better decision from a monetary standpoint. 5k saved and less potential for things breaking seems like it would offset tires and gas.

my current friends triumph isnt exactly doing it any favours either (3 burnt stators in 2 years...but at the same time, its SUCH a sweet bike.

Kinja'd!!!

Well, I would say a KTM 500 EXC, but I know you hate fun. So that’s out.

Kinja'd!!!

I might have said Rocket 3, but I know you hate power. So that’s out.

Kinja'd!!!

I might have said S1000RR, but I know you don’t like bikes that are designed to handle from the factory- only botched together Frankenbikes for you. So that’s out.

Kinja'd!!!

I might have said Scrambler, but you aren’t that cool. So that’s out.

What’s left? The SV650.

Id LOVE a S1000RR, but insurance would violate me in the worst possible way.

also, canada doesnt get 500EXC last I checked (granted, that was last year, but eh)

would like a rocket, but I dont have 20K to drop on one. plus, whats handling?

I rode a scrambler. didnt like it.

You get the 500 EXC-F and the 690 Enduro R.

Handling? who needs handling when your bike will do roll-on burnouts on the highway?

I dont sell my bikes. I ride them until they die.

only yamaha thay intrest me are FZ9 and 10, 9 is eh. shitty suspension that they havent quiet fixxed yet (and I already dealt with one bike with shitty suspension, so no)

10, would love, but jesus is it expensive to buy AND run (how the hell do you only get 30MPG on a bike?)

Kinja'd!!! "Monkey B" (monkeyb)
03/16/2017 at 22:01, STARS: 0

well, I’m sold on the Triumph alone because inline 3...TCS is an option worth having IMO. I don’t think I’d buy a brand new MC without it.

30MPG is terrible for a MC, especially given the segment.

I know. though admittingly, if I run the SV hard enough, i’ll get it down to about there.

Or, you could buy a leftover Tuono RR. They’re listed on CycleTrader for ~$12k. Add a race ECU ($800) and obnoxiously loud exhaust ($700 - $1k) and you’re in business.

wonder what the Yammy would do then, 19?! That’s truck territory! It’s one thing if I ride a tank dry quickly from spirited riding, but 30MPG on average isn’t acceptable. I generally don’t pay much mind to MPG, but that’s a noticeable number.

Kinja'd!!! "bob and john" (bobandjohn)
03/16/2017 at 22:19, STARS: 0

Yammie is rated 30 city, 42 hwy.

they seem to be more on part with their ratings, as the few i have spoken to with the bike seem to get ~35 with HARD riding.

Maintenance isn’t anything out of the ordinary except for checking valve clearance every few years. Insurance shouldn’t be any worse than any other 1000 cc, and still better than a true sportbike.

I like the triumph because it looks like a bike. I like the kawi as its cool and neat. But also I have never really been into kawis. But triumphs are British. But it’s a triple. Purple is neat. Transformers are cool. Exposed frame is nice. Very Italian. Headlights are a bit naw fam.

Buy a suzi.

I’m definitely partial to the triumph. Much lighter bike. I wouldn’t worry about electronics in this day and age, they are all made in India or China anyway.

How’s the does the street triple require more servicing? That would be the only thing scaring me away.

How about the new z900? I think that might be the middle ground.

Kinja'd!!! "bob and john" (bobandjohn)
03/17/2017 at 00:07, STARS: 0

Dont like the looks of the 900, and it’s 1000cc or bust if I get a 4 cylinder.

Electronic SHOULDNT worry, but my current experiences are a 2015 daytona r that started leaking from the clutch cover at 9k km and a 09 str that went through 3 stators in 2 years (both friends bikes)

Neither really instills confidence in the reliability

Monster?

RC8 from KTM?

VFR-Interceptor (new one)?

This bike from Japanese Classics:?

A Royal Enfield?

Norton?

If it were my only sporty bike I’d go for the Triumph since it would be a great track bike too, but aren’t you keeping the SV as a track bike? If this bike were less likely to see track time then I might swing toward the Z1000

Kinja'd!!! "bob and john" (bobandjohn)
03/17/2017 at 09:04, STARS: 0

monster: ducati, dont really like them, plus insurance

KTM RC8: expensive, hard to find, hard to get parts, no ABS (a must)

VFR: rode it. didnt fall in love with it (and I wanted to like it. but its too much touring for me)

would LOVE a old 250RR. would NOT love commuting on it.

R-E: slow, not really my style.

Norton: WAY too expensive, hard to find.

I’m not actually sure whats going to happen with the SV. I’m 90% sure I’m going to keep it, but it might get sold to help fund this bike (GASP, PETER WITHOUT AN SV?!?!)

I’ll have to see closer to the purchese date.

no naked CBR anymore, the CBR600rr is going away, I cant afford the insurance on the 1000, I’m not dropping down to a 500, and the 650 is basicly a VFR 800 light, which i rode and didnt fall in love with.

yes, I am a pick picky motherfucker

You can’t beat the Kawi on price. And with it being the last of the line they’re probably well sorted out.

The Triumph has that badass triple though......

Using my own money, I’d buy the Kawi, because I tend to buy on price and deals. TC isn’t a must have for me, so I’d save the money and put it into mods.
