Explain, Apple

Clicking on the little battery icon in the menu bar would usually show you an estimate of how long the battery should last on its own power. I don’t know when this happened, but it seems to have disappeared. It isn’t in the settings either.

So is this what they’re doing now? Instead of fixing the new MacBook Pro’s abysmal battery life, they just take away the thing that tells you how much time is left on it?

For shame, Apple. For shame.

Yes, that is exactly what they’ve done. I don’t even own Apple stuff, and I’ve heard about it.

The accuracy was so bad, they 86'd it.

Yes.

Apple battery life isn’t shit, absolutely not. No, your conception of time and reality is shit. Stop disappointing Apple by being awful. You can shove that battery life BS; you’re lucky Apple even let’s you give them money, you ungrateful bastard.

Mine’s still here. 2013 MBA. Yes my battery is really struggling after 4 years of solid use. But it never had the 12 advertised hours but I’m a bit of a power user.

The thing is, the accuracy really isn’t a problem. Apple’s explanation is that with new low power processors, different tasks result in different discharge times. The thing is, people have know forever that different activities make batteries drain faster. The problem is that people started getting noticeably shittier battery life on new Macbook Pros than they had previously, and since Apple is now run by dipshits obsessed with form over function, their answer was to take around the battery timer so people wouldn’t have a reason to call them out for advertising unrealistic battery life on their $2k laptops.

Mine still shows it but it takes a while to show up after it is unplugged for whatever reason.

Have you run all of your OSX updates? I have a 2013 MBA too, but mine went away after a minor update.

Apple has been form over function since Jobs came back to save the company, it worked, the 1st iMac is a prime example.

But Apple also innovated. They tried new things. Some things didn’t work (remember the puck mouse?), and some did (iPhone, iPad). Apple is now resting on their laurels. They haven’t done anything truly innovative since Siri, and that’s saying a lot for a company that’s basically a smartphone manufacturer now.

I have to disagree. Apple has definitely been strongly invested in hardware design and form since Jobs came back, but the software side was always very functional and obsessively intuitive, even if it was frequently overly glossy. Now much more of that design philosophy is seeping into the software side, which is a bad thing considering that this is a company that now thinks it’s acceptable to sell a $1500 laptop with two ports, one of which needs to be dedicated to the power adapter.

They got rid of it to hide the debacle that is the battery on the new MacBooks.

The joke was that you gave a percentage instead of a “time remaining” which was the thing you were complaining about.

Now that I’ve explained it I understand it’s both 0% funny and almost impossible to recognize as a joke. Sorry. I’ve had a long day without much sleep.
