My ‘73 CL450 makes twice the HP of those bikes.

That looks interesting. Why is it so cheap?

Not stock it doesn’t, and it’s a heavier bike that never had to deal with the EPA.

The company has been around for a while selling scooters and most of the parts will probably be available from a Honda dealer since this bike is pretty much based on the CB400SS . The engine doesn’t look all that different than what I’d imagine a fuel injected and emissions-choked XR400 motor to be like.

so its basicly a reproduction CB400SS.

neat.

Would you like it more if it had a 650cc v twin and inverted forks?

How long have you had it? I swear I’ve seen it on Craigslist at some point.

For the same price I’d rather a new Honda Rebel than a Chinese knock-off of an old Honda.

My bike made 45hp from the factory (I exaggerated the twice part) and only weighs fifty lbs more than the General. It would be interesting to see what the emissions are like. I had a CM185 that failed emissions back when motos needed them in AZ. I only get like 40 mpg so I’m sure the emissions are aweful. But still, my bike debuted in 1965...

I put it on CL yesterday to see where the market is at. I built the bike up myself and it has never been on CL in it’s current form (other than yesterday and today).

You gonna sell it? Or just trying to gage how low all the dickhead lowball will go?

I just saw that the guy who reviewed the bike has a CB450. The biggest thing about the CB is the torque, so if he could go from riding one to the other, the G400 must feel pretty good. I think it’s interesting these new retro bikes won’t hit 100 mph since I can still get my forty-five year-old machine to those speeds. Shit, I used to get my ‘79 CM185 with a leaky headgasket up to 80mph. Not that it’s the most pleasant experience.

I think it is a good looking bike and the price is right. You’ll spend $5k on any good running and cleaned up vintage bike. The only negatives of the new retro bikes are the dip in horsepower from their older cousins, and the ugly engines they put it them. Otherwise, it’s a good way to get the vintage look and feel without having to worry about your bike breaking and killing you .

I don’t think I’ll sell it. I’m just seeing if the market is where all the kids with CB350s and Sepia filters think it is at on CL. I haven’t seen another 450 up for sale on my local CL since I bought mine a year ago, and I know I’d want another one as soon as I sell it. I have a spare SBC 350 sitting in my backyard that I’ll probably sell to fund another project.

Gotcha... trolling for potential hipster dollars. Haha. Yeah CB values are all over the place.. but mostly pretty damn high.

Out of curiousity, what do you think it could sell for?

Kinja'd!!! "DipodomysDeserti" (dipodomysdeserti)
03/16/2017 at 13:17, STARS: 0

Hipster dollars, exactly. I have it listed at $4k. If I just left it there it would eventually sell to some kid who wants a “cafe bike” but doesn’t know how to work on old bikes. I think I could sell it easily for $2,500, which is still insane considering a few years ago you could pick up running CBs for $400. At $3k it probably wouldn’t sit for too long. If someone gave me $4k I’d probably take it and buy a small fleet of bikes to fix up.

yeah.. it’s amazing what beater CB’s go for now versus 5 years ago.... ( not refering to yours as a ‘beater’, just old CB’s in general.. )

I keep flirting with selling my ‘77 airhead for around $5k... and putting the money into a different bike(s).. but all the boneheads arguing that it’s only worth $500 bucks gets so old, so quick.....

I really like your bike and you did a great job restoring it, but it isn’t going to make it through modern emissions tests, and it definitely isn’t going to pass CARB (which the Genuine aims to do). You also have an extra 50cc’s and another cylinder to play with compared to the “modern” 400s.
