Fish sticks. Yup. In the toaster.

Kinja'd!!!

Not much more to say about it than that I guess. I’m not going to call in a bad idea per se, but it definitely didn’t work out as well as the chicken fingers.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

You can sorta see the nature of the issue in the above photo. (Full disclosure I actually did this last night and forgot to take photos of the finished product outside the toaster.) Perhaps it would have turned out better with a different toaster. They cooked pretty well, but this toaster’s uh... toasting rack (? The thing the bread/fish/chicken/etc sits on while being toasted) has large gaps that the fish sticks are small enough to fall into. The fish also tends to be a bit more floppy than the chicken was, meaning it tended to slump against the sides. The other problem is that fish is flakey meaning once cooked the fish tended to fall apart as it was being removed, making for tricky extraction with some pieces falling into the bottom of the toaster.

This one needs further exploration before I can truly call it either plain old stupid or an actual bad idea. I’ll be sure to keep you all in the loop.

Just lay your toaster sideways with a catch plate on shortstop. Boom. Double decker toaster oven.

You need to buy a set of toaster bags.

I actually own some. My mom’s got celiac so they’re for her and I can’t reuse them with breaded things inside. I have been thinking about attempting to replicate with foil, although the reflective nature may be problematic. I’m also a bit concerned about drippings, especially with the fish, which foil might help with.

Now there’s an idea. Concerns exist about crumbs or drippings falling into the elements will need a workaround.

I was thinking that something shaped like this would work better.

Get a toaster oven. They are great and you can use them for almost anything including bad ideas.

That’s, uh.... not really...

The point is less to...

I’m perfectly capable of cooking things in a normal, ordinary, boring fashion, and using kitchen appliances for their intended purpose. The point is not to cook the fish, but to successfully make use of an apparatus in a way it was never intended to be used.

In this particular instance it was determined that while the device was capable of accomplishing the task, it was maybe not the most ideal tool for the job, but possibly due to this particular model’s design and not necessarily due to the failing of the device itself. That sentence means “yes you can cook fishsticks in a toaster but maybe this toaster isn’t the right toaster for the job”.

Turn the toaster on it’s side, so they don’t fall down into it.

The solution is to switch to an appliance that is more versatile. Toaster ovens can cook almost anything and they still toast bread well... These vertical toasters are designed to be used with mass-produced uniformly-sized sliced bread, which is garbage to begin with. The Soviets would not stand for such things.

There are concerns about drippings and crumbs falling onto the elements. If I turn it onto it’s end, it’ll just dump all the fish down to one end and I’ll end up with a gooey ball.
