Kinja'd!!!

Eleanor from the Gone in 60 Seconds remake is awful looking and has resulted in many Mustangs looking like a mediocre car from a trash movie.

I agree. And now the Fast & Furious types of the world think that Ford/Shelby actually made a ‘67 GT500 that looked like this.

Yeah they are horrible, I hate restomodding. I hate people that put modern body kits on S30 Zs.... yeah this didn’t help anything. Did you see the Bullitt car was at one point bought to do an Eleanor kit!?

Same goes for the original Eleanor.

For a while I worked at Tasca Ford, and every September they did this big Mustang show. This dude showed up with an Eleanor, allegedly one of the actual movie cars, and I assigned him a spot. He came back like ten minutes later saying that he should have an end spot because people are going to want to take pictures with the car, sit in it, whatever. Dude was such an insufferable douche...nobody gives a fuck about your gaudy ass fake Shelby. There’s an original survivor convertible GT500 parked next to you, anybody who knows their ass from a hole in the ground won’t look twice at your car parked next to that GT500.

We’re all entitled to our opinions. I don’t think it looks good, and there’s nothing unique or special about an Eleanor build. Hell, there were two Eleanors within 50 feet of each other at the Canadian International Auto Show. If you have the skill and talent to do this, do something that makes the Mustang your own.

I’m not sure if I have a problem so much with the specific vehicle as I do the over-doing it when everybody without any imagination of their own copies it so they can have their own movie hero car. The confederate flag adorned Charger, the DMC with a bunch of tacked on time travel parts, the ‘82 T/A with a nose kit and back-and-forth red light effects, the Econoline van with a dog nose and fur (OK, I haven’t actually seen that one done).

As I think I’ve said before, I’ll give a pass for movie cars that were essentially stock...the “bandit” T/A (as long as you don’t put a C.B. whip on it), or for repros of movie cars that weren’t the hero cars or a commonly done repro.

Not sure if you’re the same way, but for me, if I passed “Elanor” at a random car show, I wouldn’t give much thought to it...not my thing, but meh...but because it became “a thing” for people to do, that’s what puts me into rolleyes territory.

You are wrong and Nick Cage is the greatest actor of a generation! I typically like restomods though. Take the best things about old cars and add modern performance, convenience, and reliability. What’s not to love? I also like the Eleanor kit. I think the styling of older mustangs is too simple, but not in an elegant way.

There’s nothing wrong with a restomod. I just think it’s not a great looking kit for the Mustang, and the fact that it seems like everyone and their mum does it kind of defeats the purpose of making yourself a custom vehicle.

I’ve never actually seen one. Even living in LA. And styling is super subjective so I get your point. Some people like (and pay big money for) the Liberty Walk kits. I still can’t understand that haha

Your take on this is really close to mine.

I didn’t mind it as a take on the 67 Shelby when seen in the movie. It’s a customized car. Fine. But when I see one at every car show, and any jerk with the cash can go out and buy a kit to make his straight six mustang look like the hero car from a movie it’s gone too far.

I used to judge custom car shows. After a while you have to wonder if anyone has ever had an original thought when you see the same thing in different colors over and over and over..

there are a lot of great bits in the Eleanor kit, but with them all together on more than one car, that’s when it becomes overdone.
