$235k? Really?

For an 80's backdate Carrera?

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

I’m growing overly frustrated with the P-Car community. Slap some mods on it, whether extensive like this or small like some others and it becomes some expensive “outlaw”. **** your outlaw, **** your #drivetastefully. It’s not an RSR, it’s a 1984 Carrera.

ehh I’m not sure I agree. whats an 80s carrera worth these days, 80k? there is easily 200K worth of work and parts there, if not more.

as for the ‘outlaw part’ if any car deserves that name, its this one.

CP all day long. For a car design that I regard as tasteful, this is not that. Has a “trying too hard” vibe.

80's Carrera’s are more like 30k

okay, 30K base car, plus at least 200 worth of work. to the right person, worth it.

that person however is not me.

Old white guys with money are competing with each other to buy the cars they wish they could have had when they were 18. How else do you explain this?

$2,750,000 - $3,500,000

yes. Three million dollars. For a Plymouth.

I’ve long joked that if I won the Powerball or came into “Fuck you” money at some point, I’d buy one of these or some other hilariously over-valued car like a ‘70 Boss 429 Mustang, and after checking it over to make sure it was roadworthy* I’d savor the looks on these old pricks’ faces as I drove the goddamn car away.

* many times, cars of this caliber are stored with no fluids in them.

Agreed. Although the 80's carreras aren’t much larger than the early porsches, the proportions look off on this. If I’m paying for a rep, I’d at least want it to look correct.

When is that bubble going to burst? I’ve never seen so many 150k mile SC’s go for $50k.

Ia “backdated” the new enthusiast marketing buzzword for taking a normal version of a classic and turning it into the most desirable version of that car?

Exactly. I saw that too. I feel like with the other work I have to give them the benefit of the doubt and assume it was actually painted, but I’m wondering if there’s a scary sight under the wrap.

I guess you could say that. Granted I wouldn’t call an ‘84 Carrera with a 915 trans a “Classic”, even if just the normal version

Yeah, I don’t understand that. You’re paying $50k for a 150k mile Porsche that probably needs some engine work, barely has 200hp after that use (or less), and has 150k miles of wear. At that price point, it’s not even worth it for me anymore. I’ll sacrifice my desire for a Porsche and get something worth that coin.

To be honest I find it even more insulting the amoung of poor old 911s in reasonable condition that end up transformed into Rs or S/T sorta clones. It’s been done to death too.

This one looks more like a mixture of wannabe Singer and RSR. Granted, the 993 3.8 RS Cup spec engine must cost an arm and leg, but...

It is funny that they say the tyres are TB15 Corse. OK, maybe just a typo, but hell - Michelin is French, not Italian. (And I have never heard PBs or TBs being called course, either: maybe “competition”?).

If it mimics a [most desirable] previous version, yes.

Unfortunately “backdated” is becoming what in other context one would call kitsch.

The new Alpine A110 (or the BMW Z8) are also good examples of brand-new factory kitsch.

If anything, they could take some of those old shells Magnus steals parts off of. I mean whats the point of ruining a good/decent quality 911 when most of the bodywork I’m assuming on this car isn’t the original anymore anyways?

Kinja'd!!! "PS9" (PS9)
03/15/2017 at 22:43, STARS: 0

$200k would almost buy two new 911s, which would be superior in every way to this. I mean, it actually wouldn’t because lol getting a stripper 911 at MSRP today, but you know what I mean.

$200k for something about as old as I am better be a supercar with maintenance records provided, not something some asshole slapped together from parts they snatched off ebay bolted together by the local ‘eurohaus autowerx’ shop.

I just don’t understand the appeal. “Look! I took a Porsche I could afford now and spent money over a period of time to equate that of the one I wanted to make this one look like the one I wanted instead of just saving that money and buying the one I wanted BECAUSE I AM A FUCKING RETARD and decided ruining a good car was the best way to go!”

Now if the original car was just complete crap and basically unsalvageable, then that is fine, but it doesn’t seem that way when I read it.
