Kinja'd!!!

More to come later.

If this goes through this will be the second 6MT BMWs I’ve bought over the phone and had them delivered.

Is it an RC car?

No, it’s a model. 1:1 scale though.

Fantastic car, especially if you can get a 2011-2013 M-Sport. I have an E93 M-Sport from the last year and even though it weighs as much as a fueled 747 it’s so much fun to drive. As I’m sure you know from your M3 the steering on the E9X is awesome; so much better than the later cars. You can give it so much more throttle than the M3 all the time too.

Also I recommend the BMW performance exhaust.

Also I’m pretty sure that picture is of a 335i.

It’s a 2009 M-sport 328i, and that’s a picture of it. Here’s the ad. The pre-LCI part doesn’t bother me, as I believe it was just cometic differences between 07-10 and 11-13. This has the same idrive as my M3, which is good because the idrive in 2008 cars and older is pretty terrible. I drove the car and basically had to have it. They wanted something like 19k for it, I settled on 17k, about 500 more than I think it’s worth, but I’ve looked for another one everyday for 3 weeks and I can’t find anther 6MT M-Sport. It’ll be an nice 128i replacement.

That’s a great price for such a low-milage car. The ad has it listed for only $16,950 now so maybe you could get even more off.

Yeah, the older iDrive was super rough, almost shocking that it made it to production like that. Newer iDrive with navigation professional is the way to go.

So I looked into it and those wheels are the standard ones for 335i M-sport but putting the VIN into a decoder shows that they were a factory option on that 328i. Looks awesome and much sportier than the normal 18" 328i M-sport wheels.

I like the post-LCI cars mostly for the headlights and taillights, which is almost entirely cosmetic. You’re right that it’s probably not worth the cost.

Definitely get the BMW performance exhaust if you can get it installed cheaply.

They dropped the price to that because that’s what they were offering the car to me for. They had it at 17.5k yesterday. I think all things considered, I did alright on the price. I’m not going to find another one, and this one had all the features I wanted.

Even though this is a pre-LCI, it’s got the decent idrive. All the 2009s got the updated idrive. It is sightly different than the one in my M3, like some menu interfaces are a little different, but it works fine. I remember using the first iteration of idrive in my friends 2007 M6, and being like wow this is terrible.

I think I like the wheels more than the ones on my M3. I’ve got the stock style 219m’s on it. Now that you mention it,

I would’ve paid more for an LCI one, but I simply couldn’t find one. They’re not much more, but they all seem to be auto. This was a custom order. You could tell the guy wanted a toy car, M-Sport, idrive, 6MT, but manual seats that aren’t leather. Honestly, I’d spec’ed the car about the same if I had been able to buy it new.

The M3 needs an exhaust first, and then this will get something. I was planning on getting an exhaust when I paid it off. That happened then I got furloughed and bought a 128i. I was finally getting around to thinking about it again, and then I got laid off. I was planning on blowing my severance on one if I found a job fast enough; I didn’t and that severance is long gone.

Nice!

Apologies, probably shouldn’t but still I have to ask — is the rear window moisture inside or outside?

Car was dry on the inside when I drove it, so I assume that it’s outside.

That’s good...you must be right; looking closer at the pics now, there’s a windshield-wiper pattern on the front that shows where the wipers cleaned off the same type of moisture.

That is one awesome-specced car. Best wishes with the closing etc

I got approved for the loan, I just need to finalize the deal.

It is a really nice spec, I couldn’t find another like it. I just happen to stumble upon it when I was seriously looking for a second car.

Couple problems: turbo, bad idrive, AWD, auto, and half way across the country from me.

Wow I hate listings, it’s posted as a manual. My dad has the real manual(three pedals) of that and I just did a M5 front caliper conversion for him. I understand turbo might not be to your taste, but for daily driving that low end torque is so addictive.

I’m sorry I even tried, I can’t even find one manual wagon under a 100k, let alone non AWD

RWD wagons with a 6MT are rare, sure rare. I don’t want a turbo because I’ll be racking up miles on it, probably over 20k a year. It’s not that I don’t like a turbo, I want the more reliable N52.

Yeah, it seems like you’ve done quite well on the price anyway for such a rare car with such low miles. 50k miles is basically nothing for a 2009 car.

A friend used to have a 550i with the old iDrive and I remember it being nearly unusable. It was so hard to figure out just how to get back to the navigation map, let alone more complicated functions.

That car is awesome spec; has all the right options. The manual seats are totally choice, especially since it looks like they still have the power lumbar and power bolster adjustments (bolsters are buttons on the side near the front of the seat, if you didn’t know). The optional wheels they ordered on there (which I’m fairly sure are the 335i coupe m sport ones) make it even better.

If this 328i is more of a commuter it might make sense to keep it quiet so you can put down power without turning heads. Totally makes sense getting an exhaust on the M3 first anyway. Super smart move to wait until it’s paid off too. Seems like you generally have stuff figured out and this point though and that’s great!

It actually doesn’t have lumbar, which is something I wanted, but the seats seem more comfortable than the ones in my 1, which also lacked lumbar. It’s got the powered bolsters, which I believe all sport seats came with.

You’re right about the earlier gen of idrive being unusable. My first experience with this new idrive was in a loaner a friend had and was like this is so much better than the one he had in the 2007.

I was working in a job making really good money, and I knew it couldn’t last. So I figured I should pay the car off while I had the ability. Basically as soon as layoffs started in early 2015 I was putting a lot more toward paying the car off. Considering I was 24 when I got the M3, I feel like I’ve made some pretty good choices so far.
