Kinja'd!!!

Even though it’s 25 degrees outside in Alabama, mosquito season is just around the corner. I figured this 80mm grenade launcher should do the trick, right? Seriously, though, I tallied up the cost of our mosquito service and figured this blower/sprayer will pay for itself this summer, including the cost of fuel and Bifenthrin chemicals. The question is whether I’ll actually get off my duff and use it. But it already looks like so much fun, I can’t imagine letting it just sit around. Die, you bloodsuckers!

Ok, so tell me more about the sprays? only mosquito sprays? spider sprays available?

Bifenthrin is a fairly safe insect treatment — the only side effects are primarily in aquatic animals, so you wouldn’t want to use it heavily near runoff areas. But once dry, it’s as close to non-toxic as it gets. Kills just about every kind of insect (including bees, so use with caution around flowering plants). By proxy, you should able to get rid of spiders because their food supply is gone.

In theory, this should also be a good snowmaker, at least until the venturi valve freezes up. Maybe a flamethrower if I get the gas and chemical reservoirs mixed up by “ mistake. ”

My uncle bought one of the propane-powered traps. It made a huge difference in his and his neighbors’ yards. Heavy doses of repellant were required to enter his back yard before the trap. Now he does yard work all day with nary a bite. I didn’t believe him until I saw it for myself.

It was worth every penny.

My uncle used to live on a houseboat in Central FL...the propane traps were like magic. Unfortunately for 24/7 needs, barrier sprays are the only cost-effective solution. But they work amazingly. I can count my bites on one hand from the last couple summers. Before that it was 5-10 bites in the first couple minutes.

Similar environments. My uncle lives in the Texas coastal plains. When I lived there, every time I ride my motorcycle to work in the morning, my helmet would have a gray stripe of dead mosquitoes starting where the wind hit the brow. It’s one of the reasons I’m not fond of naked bikes. The windscreen did a great job of keeping the bugs off.

Check the discharge hose diameter. You may be able to launch tennis balls.

Wow that thing is pretty cool! I didn’t even know such a device exists, nor did I know that there are places in the US where the skeeters are so bad that it warrants something like this. One of the many reasons that Tripper stays up north.

Worst mosquitoes I’ve ever seen were in Minnesota. They’re famous up there. It may be a short season, but they’ll eat small dogs alive.

Yeah. It was like 80 degrees last week. It’s going to be nice this weekend though.

My good friend on Oahu lives up in Kalihi Valley and there is a creek, he got the gas trap thing and screened in his lanai. It’s about the worst place for mosquitoes in Hawaii I would think, deep jungle valley with a creek and rain. I’ve never seen one of those before though. I am not a fan of spraying chemicals around if thats what it does.

Im up in South Dakota by the Sioux river, we get infested by mosquitoes. The West Nile Virus is a true killer for some people around here.

Shoveling all this snow here doesn’t seem so bad now. Never once in New England have I encountered skeeters bad enough to think about anything other than a citronella candle. Just have to check for ticks occasionally.

Now, the no-see-ums in the Carolinas? Yeah if I lived around those fuckers I would need one of these. Ate me alive when I was camping down there.
