My phone is shitting the bed. I need a new one. Options:

Honor 5x. $170 cash, root and rom.

Honor 6x. $250 cash. Stuck with EMUI for now.

iPhone 7. Buy one get one free. Of course its being replaced with the 8 in six months. And I hate apple, so there’s that.

LG V20. 50% off. $13/mo. This is EXTREMELY tempting.

Samsung Galaxy. Also buy one get one free; however, new galaxies’ to be revealed/released in two weeks.

Right now I’m leaning towards the LG. I’ve been on Windows Phone since 2012, but I’ve officially given up on it. It was a great platform at one point, but now is shit. Wife has a iPhone 6 and has had tons of software issues (data transfer to windows server and battery issues) an she went through three 5's in two years. I’m leaning towards android for that reason. The question is whether the LG is good enough, or should I wait for the samsungs?

I have heard good things about the V20 however LGs quality control as of late can be a bit lacking. Both the G4 and G5 had some issues and my G4 succumbed to a hardware failure last fall.

Ooooh good question! The Honor 5X, the Moto X Pure, and the Honor 8 were all at the top of my list.

Ultimately, I just bought a Nextbit Robin for $130 new. It’s basically a Nexus 5X in a funky frame with cloud storage.

The Honor 8 has to be my current favourite design though.

One thing though, if you’re on a CDMA network (Sprint, VZW) steer clear of most Chinese phones. They usually won’t have the radios for CDMA.

Yeah if LG has righted the ship a bit it may be worth entertaining. My sister in law’s V10 just had the notorious bootlooping failure. I fear my G4 may be shortlived now as it’s performance is dropping off and battery life seems to be way down. Hoping if I just clean it off again and take care of it that it will hold up for a little while longer until I can afford something newer.

I’ll chime in on the “S7 isn’t great” camp. It’s a phone, it does well enough, but for the price, it’s a little underwhelming. Plus my battery life is kind of crap.

I disliked my S7 so much I sold it for an older, cheaper Nexus 6P. lol

In all honesty though, I kinda wish I hadn’t done that. The 6P had EVERYTHING I wanted in the software department, but lacked hard in the hardware. SIM slots that didn’t work, speakers that blew after playing my ringtone a couple times, awful cell reception...on and on.

For as much as I absolutely disliked the S7, it was as solid as a rock (a lot like an iPhone, really) and the waterproof party trick was pretty fun too.

I do. I’m a total phone geek and normally swap phones every 4 months or so, but the v10, and v20 have kept me happy. If you use them, swappable batteries and an SD card slot are a godsend. I’ve got a 200 gb card in my phone that’s faster than the internal memory and I haven’t had to deal with my phone being stuck on a charger in years. Just swap batteries and bam, instant 100%. The camera is fantastic, most reviews are putting it at the top of the pack in that regard. But it’s video recording where it really stands out from the crowd. Software skin is minimal. Think of it as Google “plus”

Have you considered the Moto Z Play? Middling processor, but it’s a nice design, great software, and that incredible battery. I’ve always considered battery life 2nd most important feature next to software, since what good is a phone that only last half the day.

Gosh, I’m glad I’m not the only one who goes through phones every time the seasons change. In the past year alone I went from an iPhone 6 to a Nexus 5X, to a Galaxy S7, to a Nexus 6P, to a Droid Mini, and now I’ll have a Nextbit Robin (and possibly the Honor 8 too if the deal works out). And those are just my daily drivers. I also have a slew of “project phones” I rebuild for fun.

Upgradable storage to 1TB and for my needs i have an unlocked international model for dual-SIM usage when I go to far off lands. I have had the V20 since January hen Sprint offered them for %50 off, as well as a legacy customer $10/month credit. I ended up getting two units for $6.50/month each. My wife and I love them. The V20 is quite a large handset compared to our last HTC One M8s, and it takes a few weeks to get used to how wide it is. I would also recommend a case as the stock aluminum skin seems a little slick in hand. A simple single piece Spriggen case fixed that issue for me. But the phone will easily last a whole day of moderate use for me. It has the IR blaster which I use alot. The camera is great. The phone is quick and peppy. And there is alot of real estate to enjoy games and movies. But the on board speaker does suck major butt. So I would recommend decent headphones.

I like the wireless charging, waterproofing, and the always on display (especially since they changed it to show Android notifications rather than Samsung App notifications). And I guess it is a nice enough looking device. That said, it feels cheap and flimsy, isn’t great to hold, has a crappy speaker, poor battery life, and worst of all, apps are often inexplicably stuttery.

Your best choice out of those stated is the LG v20. I currently have the phone and M 85 to 90% please with it. It is the best phone on the market if you are an audiophile like me. There isn’t a phone on the market so I can beat it sound quality. Though I must say I would even more so recommend the lgv10. For very minor reasons I actually prefer the LG V10 over my v20 as I have had both. My v20 occasionally gets bogged down and lags to the extreme sometime and I cannot figure out why but by the time I’m done clearing its cashe and or being patient and just sitting it down for a minute or two it is back up to speed. I do not recall having any of those issues with my V10. The sound quality is identical and so is the functionality of the phone. I did not see much change except for the body when going from the V10 to the v20.

It has pretty great battery life though, at least for a flagship... and it feels very solid in hand, although I am paranoid when it’s outside its case because of the back glass. I have noticed some intermittent stuttering in some apps, but I haven’t used a phone that hasn’t had some at some point.

Not really my experience with battery life, feels significantly worse than my old HTC One, which also is a much sturdier feeling device. I have been a loyal Samsung fan but if switching to the LG v20 because I too hate Apple. It is a great phone but I will still be switching back to Samsung once the next note is revealed. The phone itself is a good substitute until I found that I truly want comes out. Size isn’t really an issue because coming from the note they’re really the same size. As far as the sound in the speaker that is a slight fix around that if you remove the back panel if you remove the speaker plate that is covering it it will increase your speaker sound it’s a little extra work but 5 minutes worth of work for some extra sound may be worth it if that’s one of your main concerns.

I’ve had the V20 since November. It starts out great, but after 2 months it slows down. The battery life suffers, the phone overheats, it freezes, and there are lots of errors. In fact since I started writing this review, the battery has gone from 86% to 79%, and it feels hot in my hand. Other than that, the phone is pretty good. Screen is ok. Not as good as Samsung’s AMOLED, but good. Performance is (usually) great. Speakers are loud, but there’s only one, and not in a great location. The second screen is by far the BEST feature. I like having two rear cameras. The screen size is perfect. The fingerprint sensor is ok. I’m not a fan of the location. The phone is very strong - I haven’t used a case and it doesn’t even have a scratch. I’d say more, but I don’t want to lose more battery power (I’m now at 74%). Also - the easiest fix for the battery issue is a restart, but I’m too impatient to wait for that.

I LOVE my V20. Beautiful, fast, reliable, still comes with a replaceable battery and SD card slot. Though my battery life is amazing compared to what I have been use to.

I was originally a Samsung Note guy, but with issues with the Note 7 and my hatred of Apple’s elementary school OS, the LG V20 was my best bet. It was more expensive than any other phone in its class, including the Iphone 7 plus, but worth every penny.

That’s why when I replaced my G2, I had my choice of the G3 through G5, I went with the G3. It’s a fantastic phone. And side-by-side I like the picture quality better when compared to the G4. The G5 was eliminated because it cost 3x what a G3 costs.

Then, my favorite part is, I can put a 6000 mah battery in it with a modified back, phone works for 2.5 to 3 days without charging, if I want. This is with what I would consider normal/medium use.

My vote goes to the V20, simply because you can get a modified back for it and fit a 6000 mAh battery.

I’m still rocking my LG G3, which I can do the same thing with. My battery outlasts everyone else’s by a loooong shot. No carrying a charger or a swappable battery, just a thicker phone, no biggie for slim fit (not skinny) jeans.

Now thanks to you I know that at some point I can upgrade to a newer phone and still be able to rock a 6000 mAh battery.

Mine just can’t stay cool. The battery gets hot when it charges, the screen get’s hot at anything above 5% backlight and ghosts the keyboard into the display. And once it’s hot, it slows the processor to a crawl in it’s desperate attempts to cool off, which it won’t unless you completely shut it down for at least 20 minutes. If I try to write a two sentence reply here with my phone, it literally takes me 15 minutes to write 10 words because I have to wait for a delay between typing, and the words stuttering into existence on screen.

Stick it out and wait for the Surface Phone and others coming soon. I have a 950XL, which succeeded my brief time with the Alcatel Fierce XL, which succeeded my beloved 1020 (longest-used phone I’ve yet had) that was sometimes substituted for my 1520 when I didn’t need the 1020's camera, which succeeded my lovely 925, which of course succeeded my 900. Android is a frustrating mess, even on a Nexus/Pixel. Apple is basic and grossly outdated. Windows may fall short on apps, but it’s the most satisfying to use, and genuinely feels the most modern.
