I know some of the oppos are also doggo people, needed to share this somewhere. Doggo hasn’t been eating well and has been losing weight. Didn’t notice it was as bad until I saw his hip bones the other night. Mrs. Comes over took him in today, and after blood tests, vet says he’s in liver failure, her guess is probably from cancer of some sort. She thinks a couple months...surgical intervention would possibly be an option, but at 12, she’s thinking it may not be of much help. So...there’s that. It can be so frustrating how little they actually know about animal health. I feel like anything they’re guessing at is either “cancer” or “virus.”

happy times...that’s the one thing that might make this easier...he’s still legitimately happy and active so far...just like his innards aren’t working right. Hopefully he can just go peacefully in the night after a good doggo day.

My wife and I were just talking tonight about our doggo. We’ve had her for 4 months, and she just fit so seamlessly into our life. I know the cost for that will be the pain of her leaving our life someday, and I’m genuinely dreading it.
Wish I had some grand philosophical salve to make this all okay. Just keep the love flowing. I wish you and your family the best.

So even at 12, there are things that could be done. It usually comes down to either money or if it’s worth putting the loved one through a lot just to extend the life a little while. Then again, I’ve known dogs go through cancer treatment at old age and live several more years. My mom’s dog is almost 14 and is going through cancer treatment. He’s doing well.
No matter what, just love them. I’m sorry for what you’re going through. It’s very tough.

Yeah I’m sorry. My dog had a 5cm section of his intestines removed because they found some cancer. They didn’t know if it was a bad spot from irritable bowel or what so they went in to look and decided to take it out. He has always had irritable bowl off and on but he wasn’t eating well. He is 7 and a half, the cancer is pretty recent they think, so he is recovering from the surgery and then we have to talk to the doctor again. I am not looking forward to all of this, he is getting better now but he could just get worse at some point. It’s all terrible to think about.

Oh man, I’m so sorry to hear that.
He know’s he’s unwell, you know he’s unwell, so just make him comfortable and know he’s loved.
Enjoy probably isn’t the best word, but just spend some time together and make the most of it.
