Sounds scammy. But some people are that dumb. I always laughed when scammers would contact me about my Bronco and ask if I can “guarantee is in good running conditions”.

Probably just someone who wants to be careful (assuming what you’re selling costs more than ~3k or so). Remember, you’re just a random seller to that guy; I wouldn’t trust a random seller to really disclose the title’s status, why would you assume he would?

I’m not sure what you mean. Is “rebuilt” what they call the title in your state when the insurance company writes it off and someone repairs it and puts it back on the road?

Sometimes people check the vin for where the damage on the car happened, when it happened, and the amount of damage through carfax. And sometimes people do miss what you put on the post but I would just tell him that its not clean and see what he says. But probably a scam

I think in most places it gets the salvage title when it is totaled, but then you can get a rebuilt title to indicate that it has been repaired successfully. I’ve never been clear on the implications of either sort of title for registering and driving though.

Why couldn’t it just be a guy who wants to run the CarFax himself? While admittedly clumsy with words—”clean title”—I would and have done that on any ad that doesn’t just list the VIN outright. I’m more curious why you don’t want to reveal the VIN, frankly.

Ah ok then he probably just missed it then. I have never been scared of a salvage as long as it was fixed right. I have seen cars from fixable/non-salvage accidents be way more unsafe than any salvage cars.
