A convenient garage lift that doesn't bolt into the floor? Is there one?

The dream garage, um., dreams continue. In the event I accumulate more cars than available spaces and driveway spaces, a lift would be the way to go! So, without damaging the nice new garage floor, and without taking up all kinds of space with 4 post designs, I wonder what other options exist for the home. Any in the know?

you mean that is confined to a 2 post design? or any at all. Cause I would want my 2 post bolted to the floor.

There are some scissor lifts that can be used without being bolted down, but they require reasonable ground clearance to drive up onto them.

Example: http://www.harborfreight.com/6000-lb-capacity-scissor-lift-91315.html

There is a guy near me that I see has a ramp like the car dealerships use to display cars. Probably not ideal, but certainly works. Where to find one... I have not had any luck. I would guess ask the dealers is probably the best bet.

The bolts are what keep your 2 post lift from falling over. You kinda need them.

There’s this thing if you don’t need full height.

My father has these: https://www.quickjack.com/car-lift-systems.html

They won’t get you as far up as a true post lift, but it does get you about 2' off the floor in less time that it would take you to lift and properly support one axle of the car.

Or more legs, either way something that’s not too invasive in the garage. I should say it’s for storage, not just maintenance. So the mini can be parked up by the ceiling and perhaps the taco truck can go in under or the wife’s RAV.

Storage is worse than temporary usage. Lifts creep down on to their safteys.

There are garage lifts that don’t bolt to the floor, they look like this

Kinja'd!!!

I used them when I worked at a heavy duty truck repair shop.

I would not use them for storage.

I don’t think there are cheap but I’m sure non electric or wtv versions are available.

I think they’re kinda exclusive things as far as i can see. Either it’s a storage lift or a work lift.

i’d really not want to be leaving suspension at full droop while storing my car

but you also can’t do most jobs on a lift where you need the wheels on for it to go on the lift

If just for storage check out Swiss-park.com & google-fu for their competitors. Above link b/c this just came up in the comments of that post the other day

Even if it weren’t Hazard Fraught, the idea of that thing scares the excrement out of me. I don’t care if the physics checks out.

Any 2 post lift will have floor attachment points...it’s intuitive that they are 100% necessary. They are good for working on cars but I don’t feel comfortable parking another car under them. A 4 post is really the only thing for storing a car above another, but you kind of ruled that out already. The only other lift type I know of is a scissor lift, but you certainly can’t store another car under that.

I’m not really sure there is an answer to your question. If you find (or invent) one, let me know!
