I ordered a GT plate for my Galaxie and got it within a week - which is goofy, because they’d given me a standard plate to start out with at the tag agency...

I’ll have to look into it, it was super easy in Texas. I couldn’t commit to what I wanted on it so it took me a little while to decide.
I originally wanted a regular plate that said “E90M3" but that was taken so I got the GT plate instead.

I believe you have to get it registered before you can get a custom plate. I’m going to get one, eventually.

Could be, idk...in Fulton County the option was there at the time we paid for the tag right after we bought the E90.
You can walk in any time, though, and request a GA “Prestige Plate” — that’s what I did with the E32, somebody gave me some birthday cash so went back after the fact and asked to change the plate.
They searched their database to see if our request was available, took our money, changed the registration on the spot, gave us a paper tag, and mailed the custom tag.
If you’d gone that route with the //M3 they’d have given you a paper tag instead, to use while they make your personalized plate (I think).

OMG ladies and gentlemen what a rebel we have here! Not only did he not cover his tag with his finger, he shared it clearly and legible. There must be 100 people on the way to steal it right now (right after they take your corrolas and camrys that is).

I don’t know why people do it on everyday cars, cars people would pass a 100 of on the way to theirs. I don’t think think a lot of people know why they do it either. They just do it because someone else did it.

That seems to be the only reason I can think of. When I listed my 128i for sale, I didn’t bother covering up the plates and you see I have no problem posting my plate here.

Correct, it would be a violation if we drove it without the sticker but somebody else may have grabbed the plate and taken it outside for a photo op
(or we ‘shopped out the sticker so no one would know that’s really our tag lol)
