This is why I stopped being a math major and went to engineering.
Theoretical math is nothing but a headache. Literally, even reading that gave me a headache. Ring theory is dumb and those people have too much free time.

My brother was a middle/high school math teacher, and I barely passed algebra in HS. I’ve used him as a lifeline more than once on my older boy’s homework. I emailed this thread to him, btw. Maybe he’ll chime in, though I’m not sure theoretical math is his thing.

I often play for the UT School of Nursing commencement. In closing remarks, the dean of the school always says that the graduates families will now have their own nurse to turn to. Honestly, I’m not sure if I’d rather have a nurse or a mathematician in the family. I could also use a cousin who knows chemistry.
