Woohoo! BONUS DAY! 22" of snow forecast today along with a blizzard warning, so the office, thankfully, decided to close. Looks like I won’t be riding dry trails for a while... how’s your Tuesday?

On my commute this morning I saw an M4 use its turn signal. Then I saw an M235i use its turn signal twice. It was amazing.

I went to a concert in Boston last night. I pulled into my driveway at 2:30am and left for work at 7:00am.

The trail was sticky, 3" deep mud out and back. I barely made it 8 miles in 3 hours. That I could ride at all in mixed corn snow/cake batter mud is amazing, let alone have some fun with it. I need an oppo sticker for it. On descents, it can be pushed hard, but when it breaks loose at the front or back, it’s controllable and can be ridden out. Climbs are slow, and technical flow trails are where it really shines.

But for dry mtb trails? Yes: yours is ideal. I’ve been window shopping for a full suspension rig lately. I should probably stop before I do some damage to my retirement.

Damn, that would require a lot of coffee.

I’ve heard guys say the fat bikes are superior for everything. I was thinking there must me a lot of drag. I’d love to have it for the snow today, however it was supposed to start 2-3 hours ago and be coming down at 2-4 inches/hr right now and there is nothing out my window. The guy that did the tuneup for my bike was saying the 29ers are the best for New England trails unless your doing a lot of downhill. Maybe save yourself a $1k and get a nice 29er instead?

Damn, that’s like seeing a unicorn fart. They must have gotten fresh blinker fluid in at the dealer.

there is a part on the trail that floods a lot and will freeze as it drains so you get this fragmented slab of ice and leaves when you ride over it it all collapses and its like holding the brakes and trying to pedal. I think my favorite trails are the slow technical trails. I didn;t like launching over my handle bars going 30 down a grass slope

Right now it is requiring chai tea.

They’ve got their strengths and weaknesses. Climbing sucks, they’re heavy as hell, and self steer is a problem but can be corrected. The upside is that they can ride anything, any time, with the exception of 6" or more inches of fresh snow. They also do well on the loose gravelly atv trails in my area.

As for the fs rig, I’m not far from Mt. Agamenticus. It requires the proper hardware to ride safely. As a result, I’m looking at a fs 650b all mountain rig.

There’s something to be said for slow speed balance and technical proficiency.

Fatbike: awesome for mud, snow, sand, and other conditions in which a “normal” bike would suck. Downside is that there’s a ton of rotating mass and they’re not as nimble. There’s been a few times when I’ve wished for one, but I’d never give up my Niner.
