It is starting to look like a garage! The 18x8 door should be here later this week.

My wife and I are house shopping, and I’ve been insistent that we need a garage, for obvious reasons. But last time we talked to out realities she mentioned getting a construction loan and building our own garage if we found a house we loved that just didn’t have one. That idea is seaming more and more appealing. I could make it the layout I want it with plentlt of room, and a 220v hook up!

Yeah we just bought the house but took garage money out of our down payment fund instead of a construction loan. All in the 24x42 garage will be $2500 with me doing all the electrical myself and installing the door myself.

How does the water flow across your property? It looks like the water might flow from right to left and from the back fence toward the house. Do you have a plan to manage the additional water flowing off the top of your new garage? If your soils are primarily sandy, it may not be an issue. Ours are primarily clays, so that garage would cause a mini flood in our back yard every time it rained.

Are you going to insulate it? Otherwise that garage is going to be loud as shit inside when it’s raining

It does not rain much here mostly snow, and yes eventually I will insulate it.

The ground is quite Sandy and it slopes slightly away from the garage so I think it will be ok. Also most our water comes as snow and melts off slowly.

Do you have room for an extra garage?

Heat too? I know my heated garage is awesome when you need to do anything in the winter.

Where are you located? Based on the background I’m assuming you have some decent skiing in the area.

Cottonwood heights less than 30 minutes to snowbird Alta solitude and Brighton. Greatest snow on Earth.

Nice. I’ll actually be in your neck of the woods come May. I’ve been to Snowbird once, but I was really out of shape at the time and couldn’t spend more than a few hours on the slopes before my legs were burning, especially since I generally don’t ski groomed runs when I’m out west.
