I don't know about this.

Me and Doggo both share an apparent feeling of apprehension about this device...

Kinja'd!!!

...but it is on sale I guess. I kinda feel like this would be a damage multiplier in a crash.

they make a harness that the seatbelt goes into, or you can hook it to tie downs via a another attachment. I use it when I travel with my dogs. This just attaches to the handle over head which are likely not in anything that strong

Looks 0% effective for side-impact and rollover collisions. Maybe marginally effective for frontal or rear impacts?

I almost feel like this is worse than nothing.

Is this supposed to actually arrest them in the event of a crash, or stop them jumping out of an open window while still giving them full movement? I can only see the latter. As Ike says, doggy harness with the clip on seatbelt loop is my go-to.

Like 95% of doggo car safety devices on the market aren’t even tested, and generally cause further injury than when roaming free.

your doggo is still probably safer.

I’m not going to lose sleep over doggo safety when I’ve been endangering myself driving tin cans since 2003.

Just safe enough to keep the dog tied to the car when it catches fire. Seriously..... Sorry. I have apprehension too.

Bella has a Champion system, it’s pretty heavy duty. She used to buckle into the seatbelts before kids, now it buckles into the tie downs in the back of the Forester.

I feel like the designer of this never even thought about accidents.

I suppose it gives doggo freedom to move while keeping him off the drivers lap, which is good, I guess? I’ve had a Labrador try to sit on my feet while driving, so I get that bit, but otherwise just no.

I don’t think it’s meant for crash protection. Probably just to keep doggo from bothering you while driving.

I don’t really see how it could make anything worse, since it’s secured on his chest rather than just his collar. I think the downside is even if it saves doggos life, you’re going to be in for a HUGE vet bill. IMO it’d just be better for doggo to go out with his boots on than having to pay a vet to put him down.

This is assuming a serious crash, not just a fender bender or something. In that case this, I think this could help prevent (or at least lessen) an impact with the front seat.

I clip my dog into the rear middle seatbelt with a clip made to go on it, keeps him more or less in the middle and can’t go too far forward. And rollover would be better than this because it’s mounted below. He always has his harness and you can loosen the seat belt to fit desired reach.

Crate, training, hatch, leave them at home, the possibilities are LIMITLESS.

It’s to keep doggo in the back seat, it’s not meant for crash protection. See the plastic hooks

If it is, it’s just to keep doggo out of your skull or windshield, not to protect doggo

This is not created to protect your dog. It’s created to protect you from having a 20kg dog fly accross the car and into you in case of a crash.

This seems more aimed at controlling a dog(go) in non-crashing situations. Like if yours was super prone to trying to get in the front/ way back, I think.

As for crash protection, my understanding [citation needed] is most harnesses are less about saving the dog in a crash and more about preventing it from becoming a furry missile and injuring the humans.

Picture as apology for any perceived pedantry.

Nah, I think you are right. Im just looking at this picture thinking that this dog and I are sharing concern over the efficacy of this thing its tied to.
