A WestJet 737 gets it wrong at St. Maarten in low-ceiling, windy conditions. The pilots executed a go-around and landed safely about 45 minutes later after changing their underwear. Unfortunately, the video starts after they’ve powered up for the go-around.

These photos give you a better idea of just how close to the water they got.

Obviously we need to replace all 737s with Be-200s. These will be heady days in Taganrog.

A world where every plane is replaced by Berievs is a future I want to live in!

St. Maarten is a damn difficult strip to land on, so this is unsurprising (albeit unnerving). You may think that the big flat ocean on lead-up makes approach easy, but winds and thermals over water can be unpredictable at best.
Not to mention that whole “mountains on the other end of the runway” thing. I still can’t believe they used to fly 747s out of there.

Was that really an ‘incident’? I thought it looked like a great missed approach to one of the most difficult airports in the world.

I know there are specific definitions for “incident” vs. “accident.” I’m not sure if a simple missed approach/go-round qualifies as an incident or not.
