We should gather everyone who’s driven on a highway in the past ten years and make a class action lawsuit!

its BMW thing to have weird signals.

even on the motorcycles, up until recently (past 5 years) they had a really weird layout (left on left bar, right on right bar, seperate cancel on left bar.. bikes usually have a rocker for left/right on the left bar, and you push it in the center to cancel)

this is something i’d except from saab or citroen. not BMW

Not sure I buy it. I’ve rented numerous BMWs in Europe, never had an issue with signals - but I am a signal devotee, and actually bother to learn the controls of the cars I drive. It’s also funny how BMW has a similar image in Germany as it does in NA - cars or drivers, it is hard to tell what comes first.

I suspect BMW bikes are actually more likely to use signals than others. In this area anyway, most of them seem to be sour older guys on GS series bikes, who ride 20K miles a year and do everything correctly, just ask them.

counterpoint: I love the BMW turn signals. They click so nicely and then return to center. I have mine coded to flash five times when the stalk is tapped. They just have such a lovely click and it doesn’t feel spongy, like an Audi, or like you have to push it so hard that it is going to break like in many other cars I have driven.

Interesting. I’ve not driven a BMW, but I guess turn signal levers aren’t as standardized as I thought.

It’s still not a good enough excuse for the drivers. As often as the average driver is expected to have to use a signal, it doesn’t seem too much to ask that they have it figured out within the first week or two of driving the car.

But maybe some pressure ought to be placed on BMW for using a non-intuitive design, just like Chrysler’s silly shifters.
