Still, I’ve always wanted to make a school bus into a camper and road trip in it. The fuel costs would probably be quite bad, but that’s not stopping me from trying to find a place to park this thing....

Needs more hammock!

Our cross streets don’t have houses facing them so that’s where all of the larger vehicles end up. Theoretically you can’t park anywhere more than 72 hours but I think some folks are living in a few of the RVs.

There are side streets near me that don’t have sidewalks, they might be a good place to stash it actually. I think you’re not supposed to park here for more than 24 hours at a time, but I’ve definitely seen campers parked around for long periods.

That is the most lazy arse camper effort I’ve ever seen. I mean, the bus is that big you could put an actual bed in there rather than these two half arsed cots.

0/10 for effort. Must try harder.

Yeah I don’t want it for the sad attempt at a camper conversion. I’d do my own anyways, I usually don’t like camper conversions done by random people, but my dad has done one in a school bus before and I’d get his help. I just like that it’s a short body and rather cheap, and blue.

Yuss. That’s what I’m talking about. I love the longer buses for space, but this one looks so nice and maneuverable

Fair play. If you should go for this one, when you go to pick it up.

Tell the owner, they really need to up their game, a lot. :)

From that description, it sounds like he had NO IDEA what he was getting into.

I am a massive fan on converting old GMC/Chev school buses into campers for one reason: Powertrain. It’s just an ordinary GM V8. Unlike the Navistar & Ford diesels in International and Ford buses, these just use standard GM gasoline V8s which can be fixed on the side of the road with a hammer and swear words. You’re almost guaranteed to never be stranded. Broke down? No problem, find the nearest scrap yard and you have every part you need.

Go to www.skoolie.net to see all the bus conversions you could want. Friendly group too if you need to ask questions. (I’m a short bus owner.)

Could swap out the 366 for a 572 and start dusting people on the highway. May need marine level kitchen upgrades to keep the shit from flying out the back though.

Holy crap I’ve spent a lot of time on that site today. There’s a full size school bus, an old GMC, that my dad and his friend converted sometime in the 70s or 80s. It hasn’t run in years, and the property it’s on has a different owner now, but I’ve always wanted to rescue it. Realistically, it would probably be better to start fresh with one that hasn’t been sitting in the bushes for 15 or so years. Still, this one is already converted....
