It has been theorized that the 12 Parsecs boast is related to the fact that Han took a very dangerous shortcut that would be virtually impossible for any other ship, possibly due to the Falcon’s superior navigation systems and the captain’s quick reroutes between hyperspace runs.

Maybe, but a parsec is a measure of distance in “normal space” or sublight speed. Once you exceed light speed, you are now compressing space, and the distance you would have to travel between two points. Hence, if the Millennium Falcon were attempting to do the Kessel Run in hyperspace, one could easily surmise that doing it in 12 parsecs is a boast at how much faster over lightspeed the Falcon was running, which would in fact compress space and relate the speed directly to the speed over c that the Falcon was capable of travelling.
