Is NNTG better than TGT?

I really enjoyed watching the second episode of new new Top Gear. And it got me thinking. I really wanted to like The Grand Tour, and it wasn’t bad at all, but some episodes left me a bit underwhelmed, so to speak. We are only at two episodes of the new TG format, but it feels much more enjoyable to watch, it’s less forced. Just some car guys getting paid for what they would have done for free anyway. Which was what made TG popular worldwide in the first place. With the Grand Tour you always have the feeling that were under pressure to produce the BESTEST CAR SHOW EAVAAAR!!!!!! IN THE WUUUURLLD!!! which made them try more and achieve less. Just my $0.02.

NNTG starts here in US America tonight. I may post on it. It seems this time they have a couple real drivers. Nothing except serious suckitude will stop me from watching it, but I’m prepared to be disappointed.

I think TGT was figuring things out at the end and NNTG has already had a season to figure things out. I haven’t watched the second episode yet, but I really did enjoy the first one.

Find a dodgy website or get a proxy plugin and pretend you’re British.

Yes because it’s about cars. I’ve seen Clarkson, Hammond and May continually since 2003 and their act is wearing thin for me especially as of late. Plus if I want antics I have Roadkill or Mighty Car Mods which are relatively fresh and seriously, Top Gear is about cars again. I’m so happy.

Not sure about Germany, but here in the Netherlands most tv providers have all BBC channels available, so my first guess would be to look for BBC 2 on your tv. Or you could just fool the BBC i-player into thinking you’re British.

We are a whole season plus two episodes into the new format. Whereas TGT has had one season. They haven’t exactly found their foothold since they are playing by different rules than they had to for nearly 20 years. I think going forward both will start doing better.

filmon.com lets you watch live streams of international TV channels, albeit at rather low resolutions. That’s where I watched it on my laptop as it would have probably looked terrible on the big TV.

I would say we’re two episodes into the new format, not a season plus two episodes, because this year’s format isn’t at all the same as last year’s format.

It’s also airing on BBC America, with a week delay, if you have that.

Just watched the latest TG via a proxy, which is annoying because I actually pay for a British TV license!

This TG is better than TGT in my opinion. TGT is for people who like entertainment and travel shows with some cars in them, TG is for people who like car shows that are entertaining. The former is now very much dumbed down to attract the largest audience possible (understandable), the latter has foregone the silly, stereotypical jokes that characterised the earlier shows and is made for adults, yet the kids will still enjoy it.

Without spoiling anything, the USA is used as a backdrop, and beautifully so, for a roadtrip challenge without the silly crap that accompanied Clarkson and Co. everytime they went there. It’s funny once. Once. And this from a Brit.

I think the BBC has outdone Amazon for a fraction of the budget. It shows that it’s done on a fraction of that budget(!) but, for me, it’s my kind of show.

Totally agree with you Klaus.

They’ve had a year plus to work it out. They’ve had time to decide what to keep and what to get rid of.

TGT just needs to have every episode be like the TG specials they used to do. None of the tent/studio bullshit. Just three dudes, their questionable rides with questionable modifications, a starting point, an end point, and some antics along the way.
