I drove an Alfa Romeo 4C. It was neat.

Was the handling good, or silly?

I drove it very timidly, so I can’t really comment on that. The steering was nice, though.

Oh please sir, I want to know more! I am seriously wanting to save up to make one of these my next automotive purchase!

Midengined cars are best cars!

Is it spectacular, even without much horsepower? Would it look good sitting next to my Fiero? Would a manual driver find the transmission fun, or soul-crushing?

I only took two pictures at the Minneapolis auto show yesterday, and they both are of a 4C (one on the Alfa Romeo stand by itself, the other in the “expensive cars” area next to a new NSX).

My drive was very short and timid, as it was for sale at a dealership and I was just taking it out for photos, so I can’t comment on the performance aspect.

However, as a sensory experience, it was fantastic. You have to step over the massive carbon doorsill, and basically fall down into the seat. The steering is totally unassisted, so when you’re parked, it takes some muscling to get the wheel turned. However, that means that at speed the steering is delightfully direct. The exhaust is full of odd farts and pops, mixed with rushing air from the turbo if you put your foot down.

I can only imagine that the steering will be familiar to my Fiero, albeit just better. The midengined fun-ness is hard to describe.

But the transmission... are you a person that usually drives automatics or manuals? What were your thoughts on the transmission?
