I’m at VIR! I finished 2nd in class but there were only 4 cars. I should have won but apparently a race-tuned engine is faster than a $400 junkyard motor. Otherwise the car’s running pretty well! Another race tomorrow then back home. I might come back next month for the SCCA Majors.

I’ve never really thought of it before but where is a good place to look for a car like that? It looks fun.

It is fun! The best place to find a car is:  http://www.apexspeed.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=37

Prices range from ~$45k for a modern car competitive in the Pro championship, to ~$10-15k for a fixer-upper from the 80's-90's.

apexspeed.com is also a super friendly and helpful online community for small-engine open wheel racers.

I’m thinking fixer upper sounds like the better route to go haha.

Nice, what are you running as a trans? And any reason a Honda motor?

It has a Hewland 4-speed dog box, so no using the clutch. There’s 2 engines allowed in the US, the old Kent engine that they’ve used since the 60's, and the SCCA struck a deal with Honda to allow the Fit engine in 2012. It’s much less maintenance than the Kent, easier to use since there’s no carb, and it’s a little faster.

Guess that makes sense, I looked at getting a Hewland for the Europa they just are blindingly expensive. It was suggested because it bolts up to the Twin-Cam engines perfectly.
