Prepare for a massive photo dump. I took these about a month ago in an old abandoned saw mill. There are no posted trespassing signs, and as you can tell by the photos, its popular with the youth. The ground was littered with glass, so I salvaged as much wood as possible to serve as protection for my tires. A month on, and I think I’m good.

I’m pretty sure the blue car is a Pontiac Tempest...? I don’t know, I’m pretty sure this is a 10/10 photo location for someone who actually knows what they are doing, but I still had to moved all this crap into place over 3 hours to make it possible...

Also, most of these photos are on my IG: @herr_quattro

I have like 100 photos of nothing but my car, so yeah.

this is the best one

good leading lines. Good depth, and the important subject is exposed correctly. fun reflections too.

You started to get the positioning better in the last few. Keep in mind that at least for the car you want a nice even dispersion of light, think an overcast day where the car is well-lit but there is no reflection of the actual sun. As you can tell, it creates a harsh hotspot especially when the focal point has less light. Third photo from the bottom is your best and has the best balance of car/scene/depth of field. I’m going to mess with it and repost. Glad you went out had fun with your longroof today.

I would alternately suggest a multiple-exposure HDR, but applied *only* to the clipped ends of the histogram.

I want a RAW, and do some highlight recovery in that headlight, i like where youre going, but I’d tone down the reds a little. Let the green car speak. maybe just less saturation over all... I quite like this composition.

Agree with you, hitting him over the head with some tonal changes :) The headlight kills me, this is a great shot. Wish it was higher resolution as well.

These photos are rad! I especially like the graffiti that may not or may not be occult symbols juxtaposed with the clean car. There’s contrast of imagery and a mesh of time going on here. It makes me very uncomfortable.

I like it!

This one, go back cut down that post, get some better lighting on the car, maybe take it closer to sun down, instead of morning, and retake it lol.

Why is your VW hiding in an old factory?

I hope so to... Incidentally, I had a relatively fresh cut on my right index finger at the time. Didn’t bother wearing any gloves or anything, so maybe not my best idea.

Thank you! thats kinda the theme I was going for, but the light was not exactly cooperating with me...

I think the only really ‘bad’ symbol is the swastika in the one photo. Except whatever moron spraypainted it, did it backwards. I didn’t reverse the image haha.

Well, I originally got to the factory around noon, and the sun was pretty much overhead. By the time I actually got the car inside, it was around 4-5 o’clock at night.

I’ll probably go back within the next couple days, now that the hard part is done.

Not surprising, I bet there’s all sorts of interesting abandoned industrial sites there. I’m near Harrisburg and I love going out to the old mills and railways for photography.

Your work is good, spend some time in post production in order to accentuate the setting and the framing. The lighting was difficult in the shoot, I bet; sometimes black & white might help:

I would renovate that place, some of the coolest houses are old factories. Concrete and bricks are solid I’m sure.

I wouldn’t be so sure. Underneath where my car is parked is open space, with a small stream of water running thru it. I *think* its supposed to be like that, but I started wrapping up as soon as I saw my 2 ton car was only being supported by 1ft of concrete that’s been exposed to the elements for how many years. But stairs led down to it, so I don’t know it was a basement at one time, but the water worried me.

Also one part of the factory was burned down, and there is a house on the property with a partially collapsed roof.

Then again, there a shit ton of cool cars on the property. I think it was abandoned in the late 60s, early 70s. Couple old impalas, a Bel Air (I think), and a Corvair. Most are trash, as teenagers have pushed big cement bricks from the roof into them, smashing their roofs in. The pictures above are only a couple, there was a whole other area with another dozen classic cars.

I lowkey want to take the hood from the Tempest(?), strap it to my roof and take it home and hang it somewhere...

Well I originally intended to take the photos during the afternoon, but by the time I got the car in, the sun was setting and hitting the front of the car. I also didn’t clean it before the shoot, so all the crap on the paint was really visible.

Also, the only other sorta abandoned factory I know of in the area is the Steel Works.. I only heard about this one from my fellow classmates.. But if I had to guess, this is without a doubt one of the only places in the valley that I could get away with this crap and not have the cops called me.

I’ll probably go back in the coming weeks, its just a PITA to get in.

Well, consider my 1 ton car was parked on top of it, Id say its safe to assume that as well... But it still scared the shit out of me tbh.

Ill go back and get more pictures of the surrounding area just to give you an idea. Besides, I’m going back to look for wood for a guitar, and I’m sure I can find something from this here.

(Everyone calls it the Slaughterhouse, but I think its really a sawmill, and the entire back room is filled with lumber)

If it’s old wood, pack that shit up and call a reclaimed wood dealer. My dad is from MT and they have some old structures, people come around asking for it. Where do you live? I agree, all the belt driven machinery doesn’t look like a slaughterhouse.

Lehigh Valley, and this place is in Coplay. If your really interested in taking a trip out here and doing some urban exploring, the address is:

4767 Cobbler Rd, Coplay, PA 18037

And I’m not sure about the... quality of this wood. Based of the cars on the property, the place hasn’t been inhabited in 50 years or so, meaning the wood has been exposed for some 50 years. I don’t think any of the stuff in the backroom was rotting, but I haven’t really inspected it...

But I might take some (along with that hood) to sell ;)

Ah, well I haven’t been there. I went to Penn and I was actually an archeology major, I would go up to Erie a lot because our professor had a dig up there and a lab at Mercyhurst College. But I transferred to AZ and I haven’t been back...

Don’t, its still an utter shit show. Infrastructure is shit, drivers are shit, weather is shit, people are shit. We’re supposed to get 8 in of snow on Tuesday... So at least you got out of this hell hole haha.

(Honestly its not terrible- just do NOT want to live here when Im older)
