Will running the F1 engine in the Mercedes AMG Project One give their racing team an unfair advantage?

I feel like building 275 power units will help them drive down costs and make their engines more reliable. They could turn the road cars into unregulated testbeds.

“Unfair” absolutely not. Will it give them an advantage? Of course. Why do you think they’re doing it in the first place?

At first I tought that to be unlikely, but seeing the 11000rpm rev limit, and the fact that they are only going to last about 31000 miles, makes it seem like they are indeed going in that direction. Maybe this will make Ferrari build a 1.6l V6 LaFerrari, to gain the same advantage. Maybe Mclaren-Honda could benefit from Honda doing a 1.6l NSX

Speaking of reliability, maybe this is what McLaren-Honda needs to do, even if the unfortunate buyer is left stranded most of the time because of engine failures.

I kind of like the idea of these F1-engined cars since the car that can be designed around it is essentially unrestricted, and I’d imagine road-going versions would have things F1 can’t even have like advanced traction control or 4WD if they really wanted to.

Well Ferrari could easily do this as well...so no. I’m sure there will be some significant difference as well.

Ferrari actually did put the F1 V6 turbo in a LaFerrari. They should have sold it just like this.
