Thanks to a guy I met at C&C, I found another Austin. He lives in the same “town” that I live in, and brought it up when I told him about the other Euro’s I’ve found laying around. It’s an Austin America!

Terrible camouflage attempt, but I really like those cars. If it’s fairly solid, it would be worth rescuing.

Many years ago (1980ish) I had a bad combonation-no money and a Austin Healey Sprite with needs. One of the needs was a starter. Behind a gas station sat an Austin American. I knew there was parts swapping between the two-and the foreign car shop I worked at would let it stay with their junk car collection. Would you be interested in selling the Austin? “If you get it out of here you can have it for free!” The thing only had 25k miles on it! (And no it was NOT turned over-I doubt any of them ever made 100k)

Thats how loved they were-enough that people abandoned them with that few miles-and the garages didn’t want them either.

Most everything looks good in the rear view mirror-but back then they were just hated.
