Any recommendations? Though bagless vacs are popular, I’m more interested in a bag vacuum, since they are better at controlling dust. The bagless vac I have now just spreads the dust around the house very efficiently.

We are happy with our Dyson, but not sure if the make a bagged option.

I’ve pulled the top three from Consumer Reports, but I know a lot of people have issues with CR (not exactly sure why).

We have one of the new Kirby vacs. Its expensive, but gosh darn is it nice. Dysons can suck it.

We had a Kirby when I was a kid. I remember the salesman who sold it to us, and it was $$$ back in the late 70s. But you could use it to polish shoes, power a lathe, you name it. It was almost like a miniature tractor in how many uses the motor had. We only ever used it as a vacuum, and my parents may still have it. It weighed a frickin ton.

We have the bissell pet hair eraser due to having 4 cats and a shepard mix and I absolutely love the thing. I know you want a bag vac but this thing is great. Well worth the 250 I paid a while back

Miele makes some great bag vacs especially their canister style models.

Their methods seem reasonable.

I’ve looked at some of those, but they are a bit spendy.

I don’t have a recommendation as much as a comment that the Dyson ball vacs aren’t worth the money. We have one and it’s OK, but it isn’t all that powerful and it feels kind of flimsy. I expected more for the price.

They do last well though. Would recommend a Numatic, but they are massively overpriced in the states.

I’ve had good luck with the bissle from target in the $100-$150 range.

If you can get a rainbow. No other recommendation as our vac was given to us from my parents, a dyson.

A coworker got a rainbow a few years ago and my aunt had one when I was a kid. Although they tend to be expensive

Check this article out, it may help in your search. http://m.thesweethome.com/reviews/best-vacuum-cleaner/

That said I have an Oreck upright and it’s great. Granted, it was a present from my in-laws.

I would honestly recommend going to a vacuum store for a solid bag vacuum.

My wife and I got a Hoover as a wedding gift. It wasn’t particularly feature rich, but it worked very well for 20 years before the motor threw a bearing. The Bissel I bought to replace it was twice as expensive and worked half as well.

Exactly what I would recommend if going bagged. Orecks are great and light. They don’t wear you out if you have to do a lot of cleaning.

Amazon sells them at less than half the salesperson price.

I have two of these Metropolitans - a big one for the house and a small one that I use for the cars. They’re well made, and will basically suck the carpet off the pad.

I’ve decided to go with a canister, so I’ll check this out. Thanks.

Does the vacuum in that picture look familiar to you?

It does, not sure from where. The earliest vacuum I remember was one like this:

The former, Mom and Dad bought one from a door-to-door salesman in the 60s. The latter, Mom & Dave had one of those, which I clearly remember now, but which I had forgotten.

We had one of those for a while. It didn’t hold up. Glad we bought it used.
