Kinja'd!!!

Critters are baaaaaaack, so time for more creepy crawler posts ! My neighbor just called in hysterics that there was a coral snake on her front porch, and, because her husband was at work, my assistance was required. I went over ready for battle, but it was just a little guy. His head was removed pretty quickly with a root cutter. Unfortunately, little snakes usually means bigger snakes are around and I don’t want to find a mama coral snake in my yard. Looks like I’ll be spending tomorrow tuning up the weed eater and cutting back the overgrown yard. Or at least that’s what I’ll tell my family... really I just like playing with my two-stoke toys.

I met a young lady with a coral snakeskin bracelet. When I asked her about it, she told me that she killed the snake in her back yard, skinned it, tanned the hide, then made the bracelet herself. If I weren’t married and 20 years younger....

That creeps me out. I’m petrified of snakes, dead or alive.

Snakes are absolutely fine. But please, I’m begging you. Safety image for spiders......

That’s pretty cool. One of the guys I work with killed one at work and skinned and tanned it with his daughter. The resulting skin is pretty good. I can totally see making jewelry/a belt/whatever with it.

We had a 90+ degree day today. The scorpions will start showing up soon. My cat will be feasting.

Yeah it was right at their front door and they have a 5 year old boy. Good thing it stayed outside. They aren’t uncommon around here, but it’s rare they come this close to a house.

That’s bad ass. I’d still rather be covered in a pile of snakes than have it anywhere near me.... But pretty cool

Western outskirts of San Antonio. I wouldn’t exactly call them common here - I see more rattlesnakes -but they aren’t exactly rare... this isn’t the first time I’ve come across one here. I think we’re about the edge of their range. Have you heard of any in Austin?

Nope, never. I’ve got a friend who lives on the edge of a large parcel of open land, and he gets rattlers and scorpions. But I’ve never even heard of one of these here. My only run in with a snake has been this grandaddy rat snake that dropped onto the deck right outside my window.

Posts like these make me not mind so much the 18" of wet snow we are predicted to get tomorrow. Shovelling snow is hard work, but beats having the screamin’ heebie jebbies finding venomous snakes outside my front door.
