That engine compartment is so German, I can already feel the plastic and rubber turning to dust with a mere glance. 6.2tt V8?

5.5TT V12. And yes, vacuum lines were the bane of my attempts to replace my valve cover gaskets.

I have to take my engine cover off and flip it over to do the same thing. Chrysler decided they just had to fuck everything they could.

Nice! I hope you replaced them with silicone. Make a world of difference in longevity.

Wasn’t that partnership just the best thing ever? I love looking under the hood of a $135,000 luxury car and seeing the word “Chrysler.”

Yuk. Too clean. It’s missing something...like 133,000 miles of patina. It ain’t got no soul!

VW did this in the Mk6 2.5 Golf. Not sure if they still do.

uh, it inherited that from the SLK320. The Crossfire was 80% a Mercedes R170.

I test drove a 124 Spider and the glass, thats a Mazda part, on a Fiat, says “mopar”. Don’t have to worry about them ever changing.

I would like to direct your attention to my CEL that’s been on for 6 months, the baffling 60-80mph driveline vibrations, my non-returning nor functionally speed sensitive power steering with the unexplainable 15 degrees of on center play, my leaking rear main, hot restart random missfires, and my need for a transmission service. NOT INCLUDING nonessentials like none of the cigarette lighters working, the broken seat air bladders and massage function, and the driver’s door latch which exploded. Also the CD changer doesn’t like some, but not all, of my burned CDs.

Didn’t realize Mercedes figured it out better, later. Just assumed Chrysler’s engine cover, the only they changed under the hood, made it worse.

It’s a Lexus engine? Well, I stand corrected then. The reason it has no soul is because it’s a Lexus.

“Didn’t realize Mercedes figured it out better, later.”

What? the R170 SLK (on which the Crossfire was based) did this, as did the R171 SLK which followed it. So how did Mercedes “figure it out better later?”

that’s why it lasts so long. Souls cause premature wear but make great noises.

They took a step out of the process for Land Yacht’s car. Might be a V12 vs V6 thing, I don’t know! And am happy to state that on the internet. I don’t even know what model or year the car is, just that its a merc.

Also, you don’t need to keep remind me what my car is based on.

It’s the “sacrifice” theory taken to the extreme. The more you leave broken on a German car, the more reliable it is on a day to day level...it just ruins the experince by annoying the everliving shit out of you.

Words to live by. Have your mechanic check the solenoid for the speed sensitive steering. They have a tendency for getting destroyed.

I’ve never been able to just riff with my mechanic and get him to speculate on anything, and I wasn’t going to pay for diagnostics. Best I got out of him was a “could be.”If there’s one problem with my mechanic, it’s that he likes to see the money first.
