Kinja'd!!!

Picked up an Active Autowerke BOV kit off the forum, super handy being back in the states. Install went well, and the terrible sound of the stock diverter valves failing under my tuned boost levels is gone. YAY

I’m happy it’s louder than stock, but its a shorter, more precise sound. And it’s not too loud, the wife even approved.

Have you had any long term problems with the n54? I’m in the market for a second car and I can’t find anything I like as much as a BMW, so I’m probably just going to get another one. The N55 in my dad’s 135is had a VANOS issue at like 32k.

I’m currently at 60k miles and I haven’t had anything major yet, fingers crossed. There was a couple recalls that I remember, but I bought the car at 40k so they were all done before I got it.

I do oil changes every 5k, and did the trans and diff fluid at 50k, new plugs as well. I had to replace the stock charge pipe and diverters since I’m running a JB4 around 14 PSI.

I had to buy a new headlight and ballast off the forum since mine got moisture in it, so 300 bucks for a headlight being out, and just had the LEDs in one taillight fail, so another 150 for used tails. Other than that it’s been pretty solid through around 10 Nurburgring laps and periodic hard country road driving.

My biggest gripe is the stupid offsets for the wheels, but there are a couple of solutions you can throw money at if need be.

I’m convinced BOVs vent pure happiness into the atmosphere.

My M3 just rolled over 40k, I’ve had both throttle position actuators replaced. I’d like to avoid expensive issues with a second car.

I just took the M3 to get an oil change and the third party shop I took it to recommended a 5k oil change interval. I had been doing it every 7.5-9k. I had an oil analysis done on it and it came back really clean. I will probably follow their advice and go to a 5k interval. While I was there I asked when gearbox and diff oil should be changed, they said every 3rd oil change interval, well the BMW 15k oil change interval. I’ve only got 40k on it, but since it was there, I had them change both the diff and gearbox oil.

The headlight are expensive, especially if you have adaptive headlights. Long story short, I hit my garage wall with mine and the headlight along was like $1300.

Good to hear it’s been good to you. I’m looking for something to put 20k+ miles on per year and my M3 isn’t the car for that. I’ve been eying manual E92 328i’s, as I’m not sure I want to deal with potential N54/55 problems, but I’m starting to reconsider.

I had a 2008 328i before this 135i, and the only issue I had with it was it was an auto. I miss the E9x if only for the slightly larger backseat. The trunk in my E82 is literally identical to an E9x. I even transplanted a custom build speaker box from one to the other to verify lol.

I know the service intervals on the Ms are a lot shorter, and I basically follow those for mine. I know synthetic fluids have longer life, but i feel like if I get eyes on it more often I’ll catch issues sooner.

I also looked at a few 128s, not sure how common they are around you, but I have a lot more fun with the smaller platform, and the n52 in those is still pretty decent.

I actually used to have a 128i, I liked. It was let down by the fact it was an auto. I sold it when I lost my job last year. Now that I’m gainfully employed again, I’m looking for another second car, I don’t want to DD the M3. The manual 128i’s aren’t really common, manual 328i’s seem a lot more common. I’m trying to get a dealer to come down on an 09 M-Sport 328i, but right now they want too much for it.

Makes sense, I wouldn’t want to daily an M really either. Those services come up quick and its not exactly cheap. I felt a pretty big difference in handling between my 328 and 135, probably mostly to do with the M-Sport suspension on the 135's.

I’m looking for an M-Sport 328i coupe, I’m probably just going to end up getting this one to be honest. I want the sport pack or the M-sport pack for the seats, the suspension is just an added bonus.
