That’s way nicer than the weird fake bedroom full of medical equipment where I did my sleep study. Before I snored and woke up a lot, but now I snore and wake up a lot AND pay $20 a month for a CPAP I don’t use.

Dude, I love my CPAP. I even take it camping. You gotta get used to it.

Good luck. I had mine about 6 months ago. “Let’s hook up 24 sensors to your face. Now relax and get comfortable!”

Good luck man! It’s pretty weird having all those sensors stuck to you.

Yeah, when I did mine the bed was about 1/4 that width. Between that and the electrodes all over me, I barely slept at all.

I’ve had my cpap for 6 months. If it wasn’t for encouragement from my better half, I would have smashed it with a sledgehammer by now. It takes all of the joy out of sleeping.

Maybe you need a different mask then? I hated it for the first few months, but once I got used to it I sleep soooooo much better.

This is way nicer than the glass tube overlooked by shadowy scientists in which I used to sleep.

Almost some of them survived. Ah, memories.

The worst at rhe pads they stick to your head. It took me like 2 weeks to get all the glue off my son when he had his last one. If you find something that gets it off without burning your skin please let me know.

I’m in the slow process of moving (slow because I have no time for anything honestly), and I need to get myself a new bed.

The fact that my parents never really traveled with me or my sisters much growing up makes it really difficult for me to fall asleep when I’m not in my own bed. It’s weird, but noises will keep me awake when I’m not used to them. It’s not a paranoia or fear thing for me, my brain will just focus on the noises.

If it’s quiet enough though, I could sleep anywhere. I’m hoping the new neighbors keep it down, because it would be awesome if I manage to get into my pattern without much trouble at the new place.

I’m currently on mask #2. The first one didn’t work for me because once I put it on I had to be completely motionless or it would move and leak air. Mask #2 fits a lot better, to the point that I can say goodnight to my better half after putting it on, but I’m still miserable. I hate being tethered to my bedside table, unable to roll over without choking myself. I hate that it eliminates pretty much all of the late night conversations that we used to have before falling asleep. I hate that if I skip it for a night or two, I get a call from the medical supply store because they track my usage, and insurance won’t pay for it if I don’t use it enough (nevermind the fact that insurance is covering 0% of the damn thing anyway!). I hate that I wake up with a dry gross mouth because it pretty much forces me to breathe through my mouth at night.

That’s way nicer than the sleep study rooms at our Hospital. We still use regular hospital beds.. Heck. That’s nicer than my bedroom!

I hear phase 3 of our re-construction is dealing with this.

Good luck, it’s challenging to sleep well with all the electrodes and headgear, but if you can just sort of relax into it it ’s not so bad.

I’ve got a sinus issue that makes it difficult, basically even on my best day only one of my nostrils works, and the other one is at like 70%. I’ve never been able to sleep with my mouth open, and the CPAP kinda requires me to because I can’t get enough air with the mask on. I’ve told the doctor but he doesn’t listen, it’s a little annoying.

Kinja'd!!! "shop-teacher" (shop-teacher)
03/10/2017 at 07:11, STARS: 0

I totally understand the tethered down part. I still roll around, I just do it back and forth. The conversation part is also a bummer. I’ll talk for a while, and then when I sense the conversation winding down, I say goodnight and put my mask on. The realtime tracking thing is creepy, mine doesn’t do that. I definitely wake up with dry gross mouth too, but I feel like I did when I snored all night anyways. Hang in there man, you’ll get used to it.

Do you have a full face mask? My dad has sinus issues and never uses his CPAP because of it. I keep telling him to get a full face mask, but the stubborn old bastard won’t listen. If you’ve just got a nose mask, you don’t need the doctor to do anything about it, just talk to your medical supply company and tell them you need a different mask. There’s dozens of them.

Yeah, full face. I tried it with the humidifier and everything, they gave me some Ambien to take to try and fall asleep and get used to it but I just wake up gasping after like three hours.

I feel for you, Mr. Immoral.

Sleep Tech: You didn’t sleep well, very restless.

Me: I know, it’s shocking really. I usually sleep best with 472 wires attached to my body, a camera watching me and the occasional creepy night visit from a stranger.

That said, I’ve been using a CPAP for about 10 years. Like Mr. Shop-Teacher, I take mine everywhere - my old one has a 12V adapter and will run off the boat electrical system without problems. CPAP can be frustrating at times (rain-out, it’s like being water-boarded in your sleep) and is so-very-not-sexy, but I sleep so much better, and have a lot fewer migraines.
