Kinja'd!!!

Article on the Mazda whatever dropping the manual option that dealers didn’t stock and nobody bought got me thinking - What will be the last manual transmission vehicle available in the US, and when?

My vote is a rental car spec Jeep. The upcoming version should be available for 10 years or so, until roughly 2027. It will be either that model or replacement that is the last.

You said vehicle, and Harley majorly changes the Sportster about once every ice age so they won’t be ditching the clutch lever any time soon.

Ram HD. Nobody buys it now, and it’s still available.

Agreed that a manually shifted Harley will be available after the last car/truck/SUV. Still think the Jeep will be the last car/truck/SUV though.

Some people buy them and attempt to place frappuccinos in the cupholders....

Last, in the US... Manual still accounts for around 80% of new car sales in France for example.

I would guess a pony car will be the last. I think they still sell quite a few Mustangs with manuals and there is always serious push back if anyone suggests a DCT would be a nice option for one of the track specials.

I’m thinking Wrangler. Is any other civilian spec vehicle sold in the US still running solid front axles.

Sadly BMW has already killed most of their manuals, especially in the M cars IIRC, so yeah....

Only in the M5 & M6. The current head of M is on record as saying the M2, M3 & M4 will retain their manual indefinitely.

I sure hope they’re offered at least as long as I have a functioning left leg and working eyeballs.

My vote is a rental car spec Jeep.

Rental cars in the US are almost never available in manual. The rental companies want to cater to the majority of drivers (and probably don’t want to deal with prematurely worn clutches from incompetent drivers).
