True story: My grandfather was offered by my aunt (his daughter) to help her buy 10 acres of land on West Cliff Drive in Santa Cruz California for about $15k. He instead invested his money into 3-mile island. Lost it all. That 10 acres is probably worth $40 million today.

I just finished reading a section, on how one of the major design flaws was that in teh quest to keep the control as far as possible from the reactor there was no way for the controllers to view what was going on.
funny story: after the accident Carter toured the plant and surrounding area. A woman yelled out “it must be safe, or the vice president would be here”
