Am I the only one who likes these?

Kinja'd!!!

A few years ago I would have scoffed at that idea. But now? The styling is outlandishly nineties in the best way, especially from the rear. I’m into it. Only the R/T of course, the n/a FWD models were pretty sad.

No, you are not. But don’t expect to have these cars gain in value. Since sadly, neither the 3000GT nor the Stealth appeared in F&F - their value and appreciation goes down day after day

Not at all! Have you checked the prices on nice 3000GT VR4s lately? They’re approaching Supra turbo levels of insanity for low mileage examples. Though I agree that in general, it’s sad to see the obscure performance cars we all like die off because their value makes maintenance a horrible investment.

And can we talk about the UFO sitting on the trunk? There’s no way that provides meaningful downforce but it’s great.

I think it’s because of the gap between the top tier car (VR4 AWD) and the base/SL (Meh engine FWD).

Makes the regular cars look way too pedestrian.

Is it a VR4???

No.

I used to love these. Over the years, I’ve become less enamored.

I almost traded my first car (a 1997 Chevy Lumina sedan) for a 3000gt, but I was too large to fit in it comfortably. My buddy’s brother was done with the car when someone at work dented the passenger fender and was just letting brother use it on campus.

The thing looked like a space ship to me.

they’re what I call a “100 car garage” vehicle - something you know would be a ton of fun, but isn’t worth taking up precious storage space

I literally just saw a clean white one of those coming home. I would rather have a VR4 3000GT, if I had to choose.

The 3000GTs are so good looking - genuinely, unlike the Stealth lol. Definitely a spaceship.

Yep I’d also take the Mitsu instead! They actually look great, not just an amusing nineties styling trainwreck. But are also way more expensive for that reason, I think

The 3000GT/GTO/Stealth is what I think of first when I think 90s Japanese performance car. Always loved them, probably always will.

But 3000GT’s are large cars. I’m kind of surprised there is a space deficiency.

A guy at my company has been trying to sell a Stealth R/T for over a year. He is currently asking $5900. The big thing that is holding this one back is the mileage - over 200K. I have had some friends look at it, and they said it was very clean, and pretty fast. This is the info in the ad:

Rare all-original Twin Turbo model 5-speed manual red 1992 Stealth with 207K miles.
Gray interior with excellent carpet & only minor leather seat upholstery wear.
Garage-kept in very good condition & always babied using Mobil 1 synthetic oil.
No leaks or oil usage between oil/filter changes every 3500 miles for life of car.
All service records available.
Never wrecked & never raced. Original paint is in good condition with minor flaws on front end. Recent tune-up.
New front brake pads & Battery. Almost new 245x45xZR17 Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus tires.
Extra set of new (in original packaging) factory-fresh floor mats.
Daily driven until recent new car purchase. Drives like new. Very tight with no rattles.
Originally sold new for $41000.
I am the 2nd owner that purchased in 1993 at 6K miles...... no other drivers.
Beautiful nice well-maintained rare sports-touring car that still turns heads whenever driven.

It is located in NC - if you are interested, I can put you in touch with the seller.

In the eighties, BMW gave us “on board computers” that looked like a casio calculator jammed into your dash. The unnecessarily large HVAC LCD is totally the nineties equivalent to that - because COMPUTERS BRO (new and exciting!)

hahah oh I’m all set on that one, thanks tho! The price/mileage ratio is the problem with the turbo cars, people just want so much for them

Yeah I dunno I tried cramming myself in there and being ok with it but that wasn’t happening. It was nearly 20 years ago so my memory is hazy. I remember loving everything about the car but not being able to fit in the drivers seat comfortably.

I’ve always liked them too.

Only problem is they’re expensive to operate and maintain.

But I love how they look and the tech that makes them expensive to operate/maintain is also what makes them cool.

I’m guessing there is a good reason why it isn’t selling. I’m guessing that after 200,000+ miles, there is some expensive maintenance/repair work it will need soon.

My preferred cars in this segment are FD RX-7 > MkIV Supra Turbo > Z32 300ZX TT > 3000GT VR-4 & Stealth R/T Turbo. Because the 3/S is the heavy one of the bunch.

Also FYI Stealth R/T is equivalent to the 3000GT SL.

Base = fwd 160ish hp V6

SL & R/T = fwd 200ish hp DOHC V6

VR-4 & R/T Turbo = awd 300 hp TT V6

yeah like I was saying to someone else, it really sucks that all of the strange nineties stuff us Jalops like is so expensive to maintain. It really does seem like there are only 5 figure examples and basket cases with nothing in between

Sometimes they look alright without the wing. Generally if they’re nice and low with good wheels and varying degrees of other aero bits.

LOL - I don’t know what drugs are you on - A ‘nice, mint, less than 60K mile VR4' goes for the paltry sum of $14,000-$16,000 - There are a few crazies who price their VR4s around $20K, and they are getting jack squat. Furthermore, I lost my shirt selling MY OWN SUPER RARE VR4 Spyder that lost $3,000 in value within the space of a year.

Here was mine at BaT last year- even was featured at Jalopnik, the best offer I got was $9,750....and 3 buyers (the winner and the other two highest bids) FLAKED OUT - ended at Ebay sold for the humiliating price of $9K - I saw a stupid 90's Honda Prelude with 80K miles reach $12K

i inherited a broken 3000GT SL my dad bought from a meth head. I took one half assed attempt at changing the acc belt and wound up giving it to my friend with a automotive hoarding problem (the best kind). He got it up for a while to use as a winter beater.
