I had an appointment in some schmancy condo building in downtown Seattle, right at Pike Place Market. Outside of the elevator, someone had taped up a large sign that said, “ELEVATOR IS FOR RESIDENTS ONLY! ALL CONTRACTORS MUST USE STAIRS!” Lowly peasants carrying tools and supplies, you must not soil our carpeted elevator!
I couldn’t stop myself fron chuckling when I read that. Considering I was meeting someone living on the sixth floor, I took the fucking elevator.

Attending a friend’s wedding in NYC, we stayed at this place where you couldn’t even come in the main entrance if you weren’t wearing a sport coat, must use service entrance. We all really wanted to come in wearing only boxers and a sport coat. But we were told his father would quite possibly get in trouble or be kicked out for his son’s guests shenanigans.
Clearly, it was a nice place that was cool to visit. But come on.

On the flip side of this, when I had my basement finished, the hispanic drywall crew was so hesitant because of jackwagons like this that there were insistent on not using the front door such that that they climbed in the basement windows every day, taking out the window screens to do so....poking holes in the window screens to get them out. I repeatedly was like “guys, just come in the front door”, but it never took.

Back when I was a delivery guy, I had to deliver to a high-rise that forced me to use the freight elevator. That was fine, because it wasn’t the first time that happened. Except this time the elevator dumped me into a locked corridor with no cell service. The wall phone was useless because I had a personal cell number, which meant I had to stand and wait in a locked room for a good twenty minutes before the customer “remembered” the office had a freight entrance. Came out to find a ticket on my car, but at least the company comped that.

Only if, by “printer paper”, you mean tractor feed computer paper, and it was printed on a dot matrix using Print Shop. It’s even more authoritative if the paper has yellowed, meaning it was actually printed 20-30 years ago when that was the appropriate tool for the job.
(There’s a rather surprising amount of signage like that where I work...)

I often take the stairs... mainly for exercise, not because I’m a contractor.
Having said that, if I was a contractor and had to bring a bunch of heavy tools with me, I would take the elevator... out of spite!
