Kinja'd!!!

Some tool in a Qashqai coming the other way came across the centreline and while avoiding them i had a glancing blow with a kerb. I felt the car shuffle and scrape along it but it wasn’t an especially heavy hit. I was doing about 30mph.

I checked the tyre before continuing and the sidewall was fine, no damage to the wheel rim either. What else would you guys suggest checking? I’ll jack the car up and check for play in the suspension, plus a visual inspection. It still drives well and doesn’t pull, but the alignment might be very slightly off. As in the wheel position when going straight, might be a couple degrees off. The steering is so sensitive in the thing it’s hard to tell small alignment changes. I’ll get that checked too regardless.

Ouch, I hope the damage is not too big

One slightly stupid tip, is to place something straight(some wood, a bar, or a broom maybe) on the wheels, with the steering wheel centered, to amplify the angle of the wheels and make the alignment a bit more visible to the bare eye. Any big differences should easily show that way.

Also, what’s up with that AT-AT like windscreen wiper, mine are way simpler.

With no visible damage, an alignment is probably the best idea. Even if it doesn’t pull, caster or camber changes could lead to early/odd tire wear. Not sure what pricing is like there, but a 4 wheel alignment is cheaper than your average tire here.

Haha I’m not sure all the ones I looked at had this really complex wiper. It can’t be a UK only thing because theyre set up for LHD.

Yeah my local place does laser alignments for £15 so its worth it for peace of mind.

Ah, I’m guessing they used it to extend the reach, without needing to flip the whole system, since the LHD spec wipers have a very large area on the right hand side which they can’t reach.

Yeah possibly. It’s an odd solution, since it still leaves some of the drivers side windshield uncleared.

Ye’, they reach up and round at the same time. Like this Renault Scenic.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

It’s the same for many Renaults.

Ah I remember that from the Scenic my dad had back in 2004, didn’t know they used it on more cars. Come to think of it, the Scenic is actually the only Renault I’ve ever seen with such a system on this side of the channel, but that might just be me paying not a lot of attention to wipers.

I’m only kidding, i’m sure it’s nothing an alignment and maybe a tierod cannot fix

Yeah should be fine I hope. The tie rod on that side was just replaced so having to do it again would be slightly annoying. Theyre dirt cheap at least.

This - our local roads are hellish in the spring here in Nova Scotia after the Spring thaw, and it threw out my alignment the year before last without me knowing it (car didn’t pull any which way at all and handled the same). I had hit a few hard potholes, but nothing INCREDIBLY bad. Completely screwed my rear alignment and prematurely killed two of my winter tires though that were only 2 years old...

Had it up to 80mph today for 20 miles and it was flawless thankfully.

I see other people have suggested it, but I’m going to join them and say alignment.

Also, you damn near killed the hon.

Don’t worry she has thousands of miles of hon hon hon left. I’ll keep fixing her until I run out of money to do so. I’ll get the alignment done when I go for new tyres next week.
