Would you buy, and daily a 190,000 miles, manual AWD Honda Element?

Kinja'd!!!

Kinja'd!!!

Dash mounted shifted, and so many cubby holes. This cars has so many interior feature that make you go “oh that’s neat!”.

Kinja'd!!!

This one has 193,000 miles and an asking price of 5500 dollars. I think that’s at least 1000 too much. But these things hold there value like most niche “SUV” things.

It’s basically a Civic with more space (unlike most crossovers) and drives like a car still (again, unlike most crossovers), so yes.

No, because it only has 2 pedals, and I’m a 3 pedal snob :)

For sure. Especially if it has the dog-friendly package.

(Yes, I know that didn’t come out until 2009.)

How did that happen

Ehh... at that mileage I’d say CP. If you don’t have to have the extra room and ability to rinse your car out with a hose, I feel like a Fit makes more sense. They handle well, are roomy, and you can get them with 100k miles less for the same price.

My brother just did almost exactly that, except the one he bought only had 160K miles, was a private sale, and because it needed a new left-front axle (blown CV boot) he talked the seller down to $4000 (original asking price $5000). Seems like a fine vehicle, drives well, the 4wd is typical cheap viscous-couple, you need a bunch of front wheel-spin before the rears kick in, but they will add a little extra push on slippery stuff. Hugely useful interior, like a bigger Fit! His has the factory sub-woofer in the center console and the stereo is surprisingly good... so, yeah. I think people would.

I had one for a few years. Mine was an automatic, but the face lifted model so I had the 5-speed auto at least. The manual is much better.

In short, no. It’s a horrible highway cruiser. It’s loud, rides like garbage, really susceptible to cross winds, short on power, and the back seats are awful. 4 of us took it on a 7-8 hour road trip and after that, I knew I had to get rid of it.

It has a lot of neat features and it’s incredibly handy for carrying giant things. The back seat is one of the roomiest, but more uncomfortable torture boxes you can imagine. It’s way too low, your legs go numb in a half hour, and your back hurts right after that. I actually sat on the floor instead for part of the trip when I wasn’t driving because I found that better than those seats.

Our Fit has similar problems. The seats are like styrofoam.

I think the element has aged shockingly well. I’m genuinely surprised by that.

No because I think 5500 is a lot for a car with that many miles, I would look elsewhere and probably end up in a RAV4 or highlander if I wanted the space

It is a manual

The only thing the Element offers that the Fit never could is AWD, and ground clearance. Our Fit is the only car I’ve ever had that makes you worry about clearance on pavement, but it is the Sport, that extra body kit “lowers” the car more than an inch.

It really is a good car, only complaint I’ve heard is the seats are uncomfortable on long drives. But I have a Honda Fit so I’m used to that.

The second gen RAV4 is a surprising car, if even kinda fun on loss surfaces. I’d bet with a manual trans it could be a fun, week day commuter, weekend dirt road bomber.

No because it is ugly. I have never liked the look of these things and I can say that I have not enjoyed being stuck in one for several hours.

I test drive an auto one and almost bought it but it was at the maximum of my budget at 6,000 and I ended up buying a Corolla for 3700 instead. The space and awd would have been nice though but I’m in college and the budget just wasn’t right.

Well, as already stated above, the “AWD” is not really AWD but RT4WD. We have it on our ‘03 CR-V. Gives you a slight advantage over 2WD. One thing I really dislike about the Element is that it only seats 4. I know it’s kind of a specialized vehicle, but for a crossover that just seems unacceptable to me.

Absolutely not. Car is way OP. Plus I’ve driven one with a stick and they’re shit to drive. Probably not bad compared to the competition but still.

Eh I don’t like cramming 3 people into the back of a “compact” car anyway, and By the width of that back seat I’d say it qualifies.

I like Elements but I’m not sure I’d care to have one with a stick. It’s very much like driving a rolling couch so not necessarily the type of vehicle I’d want to bother with a stick. I say this even though my car is stick. Also that’s a lot of miles. I know old Land Cruisers & 4Runners are still desirable with those kinds of miles on them but ehh I dunno about an Element.

I’ve always like the look of them. I think the black wheels on this one work really well. But my favorite color option has always been the silver with blue plastic. And yes the plastic is actually blue, not painted.
