Kinja'd!!!

I love when I dedicate a day to flying somewhere and inspecting a property, but when I get there no one is expecting me. Usually this is because we were instructed to set things up through a regional management agency or, as in this case, the developer.

Didn’t get access to half of the property so now I’m not sure if I’ll have to fly back or just write it up as a huge limitation. I’m grumpy about it but at least it was a day in the sunshine and out of the office.

Have a random photo from Aspen several years ago since I’m not legally allowed to share the Triumph with a roll cage I saw at the site.

Environmental due diligence. In this case, they want to build apartments on a former junk yard :(

Sounds interesting, (and important.) We occasionally run into clients with pollution from previous tenancies drifting across property lines and get the “opportunity” to write some pretty big checks...

They’ve done testing here already and have a “mysterious” area of contaminated groundwater. They somehow missed the oil tank in that location on some historic fire insurance maps, I guess? Not to mention that I think they’re just drilling holes and draining vehicles onto the ground.

My father used to do environmental site surveys I used to help him scan the photos (this was in the late 90s when digital cameras sucked and were expensive). The crap he found was astonishing. Yes those 25 rusty unlabeled steel drums need to be removed by a hazmat crew you can’t just call Billy Bob’s junk removal.

I can realt! Unnamed private client sends me to Dilworth Minnesota for a site visit in December during a blizzard, 10 deg F and 35 mph winds!

Still, could be worse.

Yuck! My last trip to Minnesota I had to race a blizzard out of Duluth. It was pretty though.

Oh, absolutely. Any day out of the office is great in my book! I just really don’t have time for a second trip. (Also I don’t see this getting approved no matter how many times I go, but that’s not my problem).

Even when I started we were still occasionally using disposable cameras, though you could at least get them developed to cd!

I hate people wasting my time. Plus, since I bill by the hour, it’s really wasting my client’s money (although half the time, it’s probably my client’s fault!).

If I have to go back we will bill them for a second flight - but not the extra day of work. Ah well. I really should figure a way into environmental law. If I have to work the hours I may as well get the pay, right?

Yes, although I try not to encourage too many people to join the profession at this point.
