International Women’s Day

Time to remember some famous motoring women, or in this case one who had no automotive interests but nonetheless left us her name.

Meet Mercedes. Not a Mercedes, the Mercedes.

Kinja'd!!!

Kinja'd!!!

Mercédès Adrienne Ramona Manuela Jellinek was the daughter of a Daimler agent who persuaded the company to name its cars after her.

Mercedes (the person) went on to have a wonderfully scandalous but sadly short life. Having married a baron she left him, having been financially ruined by WW1 and the collapse of the old empire, and replaced him with another. She died at the age of only 39 and is buried near her grandfather who was at one time Chief Rabbi of Vienna. Which is ironic seeing as though the late Corporal Hitler went on to become quite fond of very large Mercedes.
